It will fit perfectly!

how about steering wheel controls?
|
I installed the AVH-P3100DVD last week. It's very time consuming if you want all the bells and whistles. I wound up using a rocker switch for the brake cable connection because it you don't, you need to be stopped with the e-brake pulled to use any advanced menu options. I also installed the blue-tooth and backup camera. I am having trouble finding the reverse gear switch so I can wire it for the camera. I will probably wire another switch for that as well. I have the base model with he "S" package so there are 3 empty rocker switch blanks on the center console. If you want to do it DIY be sure you tape any silver plastic on the console because it scratches easily. Yup I found out the hard way. If you have the money for a professional installer just let them do it.
I am very happy with the AVH-P3100DVD head unit and I got a pair of JBL 6X9's in speaker boxes because the stock speakers are crap. I guess they figure you're going to replace it anyway so they give you a POS to fill he hole in the dash. Now I'm in AV heaven:icon23: Regards, Paul |
^ Kick ***!!!! Pics??? I would love to see it man!

After getting disappointed by my stock HU where it couldn't playback my MP3 CDR's, i got the 3100 along with the SWI-PS interface for the steering wheel buttons. i dont need nav and i wanted the USB flash drive on the front so went with the pioneer. :p
the bracket screw holes lined up perfectly so it was a very easy install. the factory harness is long and plenty of space inside to work. made my own gasket trim around the headunit using some EZ Felt so that there is absolutely no gap between the HU and the factory bezel. also removed the thin felt gasket that was on the opening of the bezel. i just took some RC car motor spray and wiped it off. it makes the install look much cleaner. here's wat it looks like. factory finish. http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...-09-stereo.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...9-interior.jpg thanks for the DIY's and all the picts on this site. it made my install very easy. :hello: here's how i have my EQ setup on the pioneer using stock speakers. i made the setting with the volume at 10 with the driver side window down. I used MP3 files with ASR1 turned on. EQ: Low: 40Hz/1Narrow/+10 Mid: 500Hz/2wide/+4 High: flat Loudness, bass boost, etc. OFF. Hope this gives you a starting point. |
I am honestly not a fan of pioneer. They have been a disappointment to many times to me and friends. Also the bypass you can not just ground it and have video bypass. You have to either get a toggle switch and mount it somewhere and turn it on than off than aback on all in like X amount a time. OR you can buy the bypass rely off ebay that works as well. All and all I am not a fan of pioneer.

for the music playback on CDR it doesnt ask me to hit the switch so there's no issue. for the most part though, im going to be using the USB drive to play mp3's...ive watched dvd's on it in my garage and it's not bad. all in all, was fun installing it and enjoying it. hope you have a better day. :hello: |
you shouldnt be watching movies whie driving anyway, just as smart as text messaging
|
That's right. I don't watch DVD's in my car especially while driving. My Z is my weekend toy for motoring and I don't want to be rolling the car even a cm (MT's drivetrain play in 1st gear) just to disengage the DVD lockup to watch DVD's in my garage... Space is tight in my garage with my detailing gear and my other toys.
That's the reason why I put the bypass on there in the first place. I don't even have DVD's in the car. Btw, the pioneer's LCD backlight is bright and easy to see in the daytime. Also the buttons on the screen is nice and big so much friendlier to use than a single din music playback unit. The whole point of getting the 2din was I wanted large buttons and easy access to my music. The pioneer delivers that very well. Also no delay from the steering controls. Everything works like factory. :p |

guys i found a stubby USB drive im going to be using on the pioneer. :D
i found it at BestBuy for $15. wish they had more like 8GB or something, but this'll get me started. i looked through amazon but couldn't tell how big it was from just the picts, so decided to get one locally this time. it's in the digital camera section, not in the pc section. very stubby and nice. :tiphat: http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...comparison.jpg |
for those looking for one, here you go... same thing bigger capacity. :)
Amazon.com: Lexar JumpDrive Firefly 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive JDFF8GB-431: Electronics |
Looks good.
I will also be in the market for a nice LCD-display unit. I'm in the same boat...I don't need GPS navigation, because frankly, I know my way around the Bay Area very well and I have an iPhone. The main factors for me include rear-view camera support and DVD playback. |
thanks JoeD. :D yah, i think the backup camera would be a nice option if you drive your car as a dd too.
my car only stops at the gas station so i passed on the camera. i'll be doing all the maintenance on the car so unless there's some major recall or warranty repair or something, my Z will never see the dealer or any parking lot for that matter. :p |

yah, but a more compariable kenwood model to the 3100 is the DDX514. still $100 more though and the USB input is on the back which wasn't going to work for me.
the criteria for me was: no nav, non-motorized face, USB port on the front, parametric EQ, plays DVDR, mp3, wma, etc., expandable as needed, easy to use, red key color, and steering wheel controllable through a readily available interface. the pioneer fits all those critierias...and the price point was right. i have nothing against kenwoods. i like them. <updated>here's with the stubby USB drive. :) my hand has not accidentally touched it while shifting so it's a good size. http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...re6016-usb.jpg |
One thing to note on the install... I'm sure you guys already know, but the blue wire from the antenna adapter needs to hook up to a switched 12v (such as the blue/white wire off the pioneer's remote turn on with the female spade connector).
It does not get hooked up to the scoche harness's blue wire. :) |
so i was showing off my wife my stubby USB flash drive and she's like . she is a programmer/network repair technician and said i should've asked her before i bought it cause
this is smaller... Welcome to Usb.brando.com :icon14: damn it... |
I would of just had it in the back ran it too the glove box with usb extender and been done. Or there is always the ipod connector.
|
i was never a big fan of the harness dangling inside the cubby (one of my other car's stereo is like that) so this is why i wanted one in the front. also easy access to swap.
the one im currently using is small enough (i never hit it while shifting) but man, wish i would've known about that super small one! :D guess i'll get one for my synths in the music room. |
You know if you were a good boy. Santa might put one in your stockings. But you still have to be good for the rest of the year. LOL

Double post

I´ve had two previous Pioneer video systems and never had issues. I would buy again. Also, not sure what problems others are having with watching videos, but all I did was ground the one wire that is supposed to go to the e'brake.

I own both Pioneer and Kenwood HU’s and both are “great”………..I prefer the Pioneer for the video and especially for the Nav, which has the Tele Atlas Maps. I might be a little bias since Tele Atlas was born right here in New Haven, CT in 1967 by Don Cooke. In 1985, Tele Atlas built the Navigator, the world’s first functional, in-vehicle navigation system. Anyone who owns a TomTom would agree that it’s a great system. |
Installed the pioneer universal camera the otherday. :p
http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...0video-20z.jpg Want to thank big for his tips. :) |
so yesterday finally got one of these tiny USB drives for my 3100. :)
it illumiates red so it's perfect. http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...sb-vs-370z.jpg |
|
Kenchan,
Who makes that USB drive? Thanks. |
eagle-tec or eagle-tech or something. :)
there's a linky in the previous pages somewhere. found it! http://www.usb.brando.com/eagletec-u...2c041d015.html |
|
^^ Nice………..where did you get that carbon fiber? and………any problems with the Pioneer?
|
i got that sheet from a local buddy of mine who bought a huge roll. it's called 3M DiNoc or NiDoc or something and can be had here:
Carbon Fiber Gear: Your source for everything carbon fiber the pioneer's doing great. :p |
just a follow up...
one year later the damn tiny USB drive is dead. dont buy this crap. the lexar one is working fine... http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...sb-vs-370z.jpg |
Thumb drives do not last forever and some last longer than others. I have two sandisk thumb drives both get used just as much as the other day in and day out. One failed on me the other is still going.
|
yah, but one year? :icon14: that tiny USB drive was only removed from the car like 6-7 times its entire life. :( and my car is garaged during the week...
i got my trusty small Lexar 8GB on order (the other one in the pict). :p thing has yet to fail me yet... i saw that lexar also has those tiny USB drives but it might be OEM'ed by the same manufacturer (just the housing might be different) as the one that died so passed. |
