how about steering wheel controls?

I installed the AVH-P3100DVD last week. It's very time consuming if you want all the bells and whistles. I wound up using a rocker switch for the brake cable connection because it you don't, you need to be stopped with the e-brake pulled to use any advanced menu options. I also installed the blue-tooth and backup camera. I am having trouble finding the reverse gear switch so I can wire it for the camera. I will probably wire another switch for that as well. I have the base model with he "S" package so there are 3 empty rocker switch blanks on the center console. If you want to do it DIY be sure you tape any silver plastic on the console because it scratches easily. Yup I found out the hard way. If you have the money for a professional installer just let them do it.

I am very happy with the AVH-P3100DVD head unit and I got a pair of JBL 6X9's in speaker boxes because the stock speakers are crap. I guess they figure you're going to replace it anyway so they give you a POS to fill he hole in the dash. Now I'm in AV heaven:icon23:

Regards,
Paul

After getting disappointed by my stock HU where it couldn't playback my MP3 CDR's, i got the 3100 along with the SWI-PS interface for the steering wheel buttons. i dont need nav and i wanted the USB flash drive on the front so went with the pioneer. :p

the bracket screw holes lined up perfectly so it was a very easy install.
the factory harness is long and plenty of space inside to work.

made my own gasket trim around the headunit using some EZ Felt so that there is absolutely no gap between the HU and the factory bezel. also removed the thin felt gasket that was on the opening of the bezel. i just took some RC car motor spray and wiped it off. it makes the install look much cleaner.

here's wat it looks like. factory finish.

thanks for the DIY's and all the picts on this site. it made my install very easy. :hello:

here's how i have my EQ setup on the pioneer using stock speakers. i made the setting with the volume at 10 with the driver side window down.

I used MP3 files with ASR1 turned on.

EQ:
Low: 40Hz/1Narrow/+10
Mid: 500Hz/2wide/+4
High: flat

Loudness, bass boost, etc. OFF.

Hope this gives you a starting point.

I am honestly not a fan of pioneer. They have been a disappointment to many times to me and friends. Also the bypass you can not just ground it and have video bypass. You have to either get a toggle switch and mount it somewhere and turn it on than off than aback on all in like X amount a time. OR you can buy the bypass rely off ebay that works as well. All and all I am not a fan of pioneer.

that's too bad for you. you or your friends may have wired the bypass wrong because im using a normally closed push switch and so i only need to hit it once and hit "OK" on the screen. there's no timing or anything. i can sit there drinking my diet pepsi and hit the switch, finish the drink and hit OK on the screen.

for the music playback on CDR it doesnt ask me to hit the switch so there's no issue. for the most part though, im going to be using the USB drive to play mp3's...ive watched dvd's on it in my garage and it's not bad. all in all, was fun installing it and enjoying it.

hope you have a better day. :hello:

you shouldnt be watching movies whie driving anyway, just as smart as text messaging

kenchan 09-08-2009 09:17 AM

That's right. I don't watch DVD's in my car especially while driving. My Z is my weekend toy for motoring and I don't want to be rolling the car even a cm (MT's drivetrain play in 1st gear) just to disengage the DVD lockup to watch DVD's in my garage... Space is tight in my garage with my detailing gear and my other toys.

That's the reason why I put the bypass on there in the first place. I don't even have DVD's in the car.

Btw, the pioneer's LCD backlight is bright and easy to see in the daytime. Also the buttons on the screen is nice and big so much friendlier to use than a single din music playback unit. The whole point of getting the 2din was I wanted large buttons and easy access to my music. The pioneer delivers that very well.

Also no delay from the steering controls. Everything works like factory. :p

X2, and there model is the one higher than this one more safety features. I am not saying the wiring is wrong because I was the one who did it. I am saying that there quality has went down over the years. Looks good though.

guys i found a stubby USB drive im going to be using on the pioneer. :D

i found it at BestBuy for $15. wish they had more like 8GB or something, but this'll get me started. i looked through amazon but couldn't tell how big it was from just the picts, so decided to get one locally this time. it's in the digital camera section, not in the pc section.

very stubby and nice. :tiphat:
