Default Zenclosures...Upfire vs Standard box

I am having a hard time choosing a sub box, I love the look of the upfire box because i feel it makes the trunk area look clean...But how is the sound quality of the upfire box vs the standard box? Ive got 10" jlw3v3's with a MTX 81000d and a Pioneer 4300DVD head unit. Any input?

I honestly don't think it is going to make much of a difference in our cars. Your wave length return distances are roughly the same. My dual 10" upfire box will be here Tuesday I will let you know how it sounds once I have it installed.

Actually it does make that much difference, back it going to be able to throw the sound towards the front easier than if it was aimed up, thus being louder.

You may be right but I think in such a small area the distance for the sound to reflex back is going to be a similar distance thus not making a huge difference. I may be wrong but it was explained to me that it is not always the direction you face your subs it is the distance away that they are. Which has to do with wave length response.

Either way your car is going to be loud! I have 1 10" in my gf's 3 row durango with all the settings turned down and it is too loud for me. I went with the upfire for the simple fact that I do use my car for groceries or what ever I may be carrying and I just like the idea of not worrying about something sliding into the woofer with or with out a grill on the woofer.

I have a 2x 10" Kicker Upfire box, and I love it. It's nice to be able to sit at a stoplight for a second, and take a peek back seeing the subs working. As for sound quality, I know that it does help to have rear firing, but unless you're going for SQL or dB competitions, the difference will be barely noticeable if at all.

Only thing I can recommend is to tint the rear window if you can, so people looking outside can't see your trunk and think about stealing it.

Hmm, I don't have any pics of my setup on here, I'll take some tonight and post them so you can see.

I ended up going with the traditional style box. I do like the look of the Upfire but I do infact rember a difference in my z32 when the subs were facing up Vs Back. As for tint, Im already blacked out
Plus my Z lives in the garage and I live in a town of farmers.

I would suggest our spare tire enclosure "magic Box" that allows you to keep the spare in the car. And no loss of space at all. 13" Up firing. AWESOM Sound.
