Stereo recomendations
Hello everyone,
Come Monday I will be the proud owner of a brand spanking new Blue 370Z. I bought the base model with the sport package. I wish I could have afforded the touring model with the sport package but I'm still happy as a clam about my new toy. I took someones advice on this forum and used the Pentagon Federal Credit union for financing. Everything went real smooth. Anyway onto my question. I love my music and gadgets in cars. Mine is coming with the stock radio and from what I can tell from reading on this forum it's pretty crap! I love having navigation and want to replace the stock unit with something with navigation and a touch screen. I have read this forum from cover to cover and I am left more confused about my options now! lol I was thinking about the new Kenwood units that have the Garmin Navigation and Parrot Blue Tooth. Does anyone have any info on what it would take to install soemthing like this? Will it fit right where the stock radio is and does someone make a bezel for it so it looks like a professional fit in the dash? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any speaker recommendations would be greatly appreciated too. Take care, Willie Last edited by bpd138; 05-03-2009 at 12:14 PM. |

Hi Willie. Well congrats on the new car, your going to love it. As far as the audio upgrades there are quite a few radio's that will fit into your car with ease. We sell ALPINE, KENWOOD, and PIONEER PREMIER at our store and they all have great features that you would enjoy. But I must say that I'm partial to the Kenwood's ease of use and fit and finish in the 370Z. I've installed these systems into a lot of 350z and a million other cars but the Kenwood DNX models would be my recommendation to you. The DNX8120 is the current top of the line model avalible. There will be a replacement for it going in 60-90 days called the DNX9140. This model has every possible option you would like built in: NAV, BT, Touch screen, DVD, optional ipod & back up camera and steering wheel control interface. There is no need for a special bezel to mount the radio and the wiring harness and steering control models are all standard pieces a good shop would have in stock.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the info. I'm leaning towards the Kenwood DNX-8120. I like the fact that everything is built in to it. If you don't mind I have one more question. Does the base model 370Z have an amp? I'm guessing not. If it doesn't then the install would be relatively easy. Also do you think I need to add an Amp for "normal" type listening, loud but not earth shaking! lol Thanks for your help and info. Willie |

No amp in the base model. And for normal listening if you have Speakers designed for radio or low powered system you will be ok.

Hey jeff, after I get my Z you and I are going to have to sit down and figure something out. With my knowledge of car audio, combined with yours, we could do one bad *** install!! You're only like 4 hours from me

I've already got the list of stuff to put in it.
Kenwood DNX 5140 MTX TT12 (Shallow sub) MTX TXC 6.1 (6.5's with tweets) MTX X500D amp Im stuck on an amp for the 6.5's though. They are 150W rms at 4 ohm speakers and it's hard to find a decent multi channel with the right wattage to match that. I was wondering if I might be able to use a 300W mono to run them. I like staying with all one brand as much as possible, so if I don't have to change from MTX, whatever you suggest, I'll probably be game for. |

Hmmm, well there is a 504 and a 704 (which I already have) but I have never heard of an X604. Are you referring to the Elite604? If so, it is only putting out 80W (rms) x 4. That's going to be really under powering these 6.5's. Maybe I would be better off keeping my X704 which I already have being that it is a 4-channel and pumps out 105W (rms) x 4. What do you think?

Sweet, I already got that amp then. Do you think we could do an install with the subs and amps I already have now?
I have 2 MTX TR7510-22 1 MTX X1000D amp 1 MTX X704 amp Then I don't have to buy anything but my H/U and my components. |
