Default Roadster speaker replacement issues

I hired a company to replace the entire HU, speakers, add an amp, sub, navigation etc into my '10 Roadster Sport/Tour. He put in the system last week and the Head unit shorted out for some unknown reason when they were testing it. He just called me and said that he was told that the Bose speakers cannot be replaced because of the type of info being sent to those speakers by the wiring. He said its specific ONLY to the Roadster. This doesnt make any sense to me if your replacing everything from the factory, your just using existing wiring that goes to the speakers.. Can anyone help?

I am going to call BS on this, from the wiring diagrams I have looked at there are only very SMALL differences in the systems from the bose in a regular model to a bose in a roadster. I am thinking they are either trying to run the bose speakers off the head unit or have something crossed. Make sure they have something like this in between the head unit and the bose amp if they are in fact using that.

if they were changing everything, they should not be using factory speaker wires anywhere in the car, something doesn't add up. Did you just get the gear from them or did you bring in your own? they should, if you bought it there, just swap in a working HU and they can deal with warranty on the one they blew.

Agreed, the stock wires run thru the bose amp. The would have to cut/splice into the wires at the amp location which is in the convertible compartment or better yet run news wires. They probably didnt want to mess with the molex.
