You can use your steering wheel controls with a aftermarket unit and stream music but you will not have control over that device using BT audio.

I just did a major install on a 40th edition

Can you take some pics next time you do that? I'm really tired of dealing with the AUX jack, if I leave my mp3 player and cord in the car during the day both heat up really bad and the audio is really weird for like 10-15 minutes until the inside of the car cools down.

The whole process of taking the radio out and putting a new one in, you said you just "did a major install".

How much does that kind of thing cost?

Default Add this for $30

Amazon.com: Miccus Mini-jack RX: Bluetooth Music Receiver pair it with Phones, Tablets, PCs and Apple Devices: MP3 Players & Accessories

Just plug into the front Aux-In jack. Problem solved.

Depends on what you want do you just want a head unit? Do you want a whole system?

There are countless threads about not only what to do with the bose system but how to take the dash apart which is the same for the most part for both base and bose.

you will find in most case's streaming BlueTooth audio imo the sound quailty
is not as good. even using a aux cable isn't that great.

might consider new deck with a couple of usb ports.
i don't have any pics but i use an ipod which is plugged into one
of the usb ports and hidden out of site and sounds pretty decent imo...

2011 Touring. Bluetooth and phone 3gs works fine. However, trying to use the GPS function with turn by turn directions doesn't stream. I assume that's the same issue as streaming music to the non-nav models?

I haven't messed with it to any extent, just one try so don't know if attaching the cable and going that direction would work (I assume that it would).

Thanks!

i had no idea what bluetooth audio was, and decided to try it out... was playing pandora through my 2010 navigation and sounded great... even watched some youtube. Way easier then dealing with cables, did this all through my htc evo. awesome feature I will make a ton of use out of (where service is good LOL)

Default My BT audio receiver, Aux input.

For my BT Audio solution on my 2014 Nismo with the Bose HU, I bought the:

HomeSpot NFC-Enabled Bluetooth Audio Receiver for Sound System

and the

UGREEN 3.5mm Auxiliary Audio Flat Cable 90 Degree Right Angle Compatible for iPhone, iPad or Smartphones, Tablets, Media Players Black 6ft/ 2m

From Amazon. I spent less than $40.00 total. Stashed the unit under the center console, plugged the flat 3.5mm 90 deg audio cable in to the aux input.

I get the full benefit of the existing Bose Head Unit sound and satellite along with the BT Streaming audio of my choice off my Android phone, Nexus 7 or iPad air. I am very happy with the results. I don't get the HU deck controls, but the phone/tablet/iPad all have reasonable controls that come with the app of Choice. I use pandora, Amazon streaming audio and sometimes Sirius Internet radio. On Long trips Netflix or a movie play well thru the speakers. The wife enjoys the diversion while I do the driving.

Obviously i could have replaced the whole head unit. Might have been better audio quality, but in my experience the audio quality is no better or worse with the $40.00 solution of the $600-$800 solution. Feel free to challenge my assertions, but if you don't try it first you'll never know.

Just my 2 pennies worth.

How do you power the adapter? Cigarette Lighter to USB adapter?

Not to hijack the thread, but I bought this device for my '09 Touring with NAV, based on your post. I put it in the console and connected to the AUX RCA's using the provided cable, and use the 12V "lighter" socket in the console with a 2 port usb adapter to power it (one port for this, one for charging a phone), so it's all self contained within the console. It works great! A couple of features:

Bluetooth pairing using NFC works great, but can still pair with a phone manually.

The device automatically reconnects to the last device that it was connected to.

The car's bluetooth pairing with the phone is still active, meaning my phone is paired to the car for calls, and to this box for audio streaming at the same time.

I'm going to try to find shorter cables, as the cable bundles take up more room in the console that this box does, but right now it out of sight; out of mind...

corsairprime got it

I think really just depends on your needs in terms of audio quality. If you are not happy with the stock speakers or HU, then replacing everything (BT HU, speakers, amp) is the way to go. If you're ok with the stock stuff, then an aux cable and external BT receiver is probably fine at far less cost.

For now, I am using the front lighter power adapter with a 12v to 5v (dual amperage) power unit. Soon, I am looking to cannibalize a 12v to 5v USB power adapter and hide everything from view. Just a matter of finding the right hardware.

Enjoy.
