Stock Nav, pros and cons

Is the stock Nav worth it, does it offer flexibility for back up cams, watching DVDs and other custom stuff??
Please Discuss.

The 2011 comes with a backup cam on the nav. I'm loving mine, it's so much easier to use than the idrive nav in my BMW.

The nav unit is one of the better OEM systems. I'm a big fan of it.

I love my Nav, very glad I got it.

Con the process to update it. Pro it's not just the nav but the music box too

The stock Nav system is a very nice setup and the backup cam for 2011 is a bonus however for me, i chose not to get it because of the price. $2800 seems pretty steep considering some after market systems look just as good if not better for half the price. Also, i really like the cubby hole, fits my wallet, phone, and ipod nicely.

IMO save the money on the Nav, put it towards other mods:ugh2:

I love the Nav

Large hard drive (Music Box), great Menu for the car features and system monitoring, u can control and monitor just about everything, haven't really used the GPS much, but it works great, DVD's when parked. 2011 has the back up cam so thats sweet, thats the only thing I'm missing.

The Nav also adds some additional voice control, the Music Box, another trip computer, and control over some options you can't change otherwise except at the dealer. Plus a nice iPod/USB music interface.

The 2010 can add a backup cam pretty easily, the 2009 you can get a box to add a backup cam.

Upgrades run $150 to $200, so pretty expensive.

Overall integration is nice.

Would most of you agree that one big plus for the OEM nav is that it's placed at eye level when you drive compared to aftermarket nav where it would have to be much lower? Of maybe the pictures just exaggerate how low it really is...

Stock nav system comes with a bose system which most want to get rid of because of how bad it is "search the threads" I personally would take aftermarket over stock most of the time.

Reasons:

Better audio
More options
Better iPod control
Play movies more easily
More system options "audio"

I don't think the 2010 can be better at DVD or iPod, but I understand the others.

Ah but the stock unit has limits not to mention you have to use their bose system which if you ever wanted to upgrade any one thing you have to either by an adapter like the re-q of gut the entire system.

dP3NGU1N 05-17-2011 06:32 PM

Is an adapter expensive? From what I've read a lot of people hate the bose system. If I got the nav I would like to keep all interface aspects and the awesome OEM look but change out the speakers.

The position of aftermarket navs was also a concern to me. I don't find it safe having to look down to view the map.

Anything else that an after market DDin would do better than the stock OEM nav? can you BT music from an iphone or would you have to USB it?
