I read some about the polk DB6501 6 1/2 in general are they the best to use with a base head unit?

I've got them and they work well (very good highs) and are a real improvement over stock but if you want thumping base you'll need a sub woofer.

Thanks for reply thats what I wanted to know just wanted clean sound no thumping for me.

Real clean sound includes a sub, music doesn't stop at 100Hz...

i just installed a set running off my base HU. I would say it definitely cleans up the sound. you will probably want at least a new HU or amp down the road, at least i do.

all in all, i recommend them.
