External portable Hard-Drive for Z stereo

Okay I at Best Buy, about to purchase a Western Digital 1tb hard-drive for the car but come to find out VIDEO will not work but music will. Now I know the iPhone connection I have hooked up to my aftermarket unit has a video input wire "like other units" but supposedly there is no fix or format to make my Movie/Music idea work. WHY is that?:shakes head:

I decided before I buy it and take my dash apart, I would go home and post on the forums like a normal person lol :ugh2: but still Pi$$ed and cant see why the unit cant read movies.

BTW: Unit is a Kenwood KIV-700, which has a 2.0 USB speed

The hard-drive is a Western Digital My Passport Essential SE 3.0 usb/ 2.0. I hope somebody has a fix for this issue. PS: I don't want to buy an IPOD for my car or a cheap iPod lol.... I want 1TB or 750 GB with my movies and music. No more deleting stuff for me.

After doing some research, KIV-700 | Audio File | Kenwood Corporation

it would appear some files are acceptable but not all... WMA I believe and .mp4, .avi. If thats the case then my videos and music should work. All my movies are .AVI files and my music is Mp3 aka Mpeg. So am I correct?

well, even if its avi it may be coded with a specific codec which the kenwood doesnt have. Look to see if there are firmware updates or jsut good something like kenwood avi not working and should find the answer quick

So I somewhat succeed in my project.. I ended up reformatting the WD 750gb harddrive to FAT32 through another software since windows will only allow 32gb. Once that was completed, I begun slowing testing out music and dragg them over to the harddrive. They seemed to work BETTER & Sound better than connecting my iphone up to the stereo. Not sure if its due to better data flow or what. SOOOO I decided I would attempt to convert a .AVI file into a WMA or MPEG file. The VIDEO WAS SUCCESSFUL as a WMA file but buffered at times which annoyed the crap out of me. I decided to call it a day and though I was able to prove the odds I just want to go on record to say that Best-buy Techs, Auto Guys and Other websites stated this was IMPOSSIBLE and I just want to say BWAHAHAHAHAH LOSERS. Made a video but waiting to try out some other file conversions before I make my final decision on most compatible file ext. Also I am curious with my headunit and may consider looking at others to see if a better solution to my problem can be found.

Overall.... I WAS HAPPY TO SEE THE ODDS BEATEN but still working on it. I can not wait to simply store that Harddrive in my glove back and leave it there unless im updating it. NO more Iphone/Ipod **** every time I sit.
