I smell a lawsuit coming, unless apple ok'd it.

wish there was an android version... then have inputs from OBD2 port and have monitoring capabiliites, or even change ECU program from the stereo. :p

bigaudiofanat 04-29-2011 01:11 PM

I'm really confused why manufacturers keep making compatible devices only for the iPhone...and not any Android devices. I realize that there could be some connection issues across the board since there are so many "flavors" of Android devices; but is it really that difficult to have a micro-USB and mini-HDMI connection to your device (or even DLNA)? There are now more Android devices than iPhones and that statistic will only continue to grow. So why is there no love for Android from companies when in comes to connectability to their products? You technically are reducing your possible market exposure, and a smaller footprint by going with Apple. Does anyone agree with me on this?

Yeah, looking for Android driven versus Apple driven. Apple is certainly the trendy product for the start of this decade, but things change.

These units are most likely compatible with the iPod touch and other iPod devices also. Include those and recalculate. ;)

Android is great too, but if you only had the option to make a unit for one device, shouldnt the answer be plain and simple. iPhone, iPod and iPad have owned a big segment of the market for a long time. Now that Android has surpassed Apple, Im sure there will be many more Android based media products. I like Android and Apple yet I have been an avid iPhone user for sometime now. However I would like to see more devices compatible to both.

Yep, include all of them and I would say its no where near close.

Also, my knowledge on Android is lacking, but do they all share a common media player?

If we're comparing media players, then yes, you are probably right. If we are comparing smartphone operating systems, then Android is still ahead and my stats are correct.

The operating system does have a stock player that is the same. However, since there are so many manufacturers who are making phones with Android, it's not to say that one manufacturer doesn't change up the media player.
