Hmm I'm looking at some other threads and the cost to update the 09 nav software and with $300 plus just to get a backup camera working it might be easier to go with an aftermarket system.

I don't bother upgrading the nav software. If I need the most updated streets that may have been added, I use my Samsung SIII.

Navtool $209 + Sony Cam $21= $230 (not too bad)

True, that's not horrible. I might just do the same and forego the Nav upgrade.
Well I should really wait until the car actually gets here in two weeks before I start buying everything at once for it lol

Your thread seems quite older, as its 2012 so today you can find back-up camera in online shops. We can suggest you name of brands but selection entirely depends upon your budget.

Please pardon my confusion...

I just bought a 2009 370Z Touring that has factory navigation. I would really like to install a back-up camera to assist me with backing up, blind spots, etc. The camera mentioned in this thread appears to be fairly inexpensive on Ebay. I'm still trying to decide whether to go with CCD, CMOS, or whatever. I would appreciate advice on what's the best bang for the buck.

Also, do I need to purchase the NavTool Video Unlock Adaptor, or will the camera wire directly into the Navigation unit? I may have missed it, but I haven't seen a DIY or other information on this forum (I just signed up yesterday, so please don't be too tough on me).

I would appreciate any advice on the right path to take. Many thanks to all. I have learned a great deal reading the information posted on this site. Hats off to the site administrator!

I have a 2009MY 370Z
I have bought a back up camera (replacing the licence plate light) on Ebay + a 7" LCD monitor for a total of ~60$

I'm going to fix the monitor between the seats (in the middle) on the vertical plastic panel.

I have planned to connect both the camera and the monitor (6W) to the reverse light power (thus it will switch on when I will be on reverse shift)

Do you think it could be an issue to supply camera+monitor using the reverse light power
I'm thinking about too high power consumption on this harness, diagnostic message on dashbord, blown fuse...

My 2009 I am using the reverse light wire to activate my Camera. I bought my camera from Ebay. I'm using the Navtool for about 200.00 about 1 year ago with no problems at all. I also get an extra video input with the Navtool but I don't use it.

I cannot say whether or not you have enough current on the Z Reverse light circuit to run a Camera and LCD monitor. I would use a relay to switch 12V to the backup system with the reverse light and a transistor switch to 12V from Accy for the relay. The reverse light circuit may not supply enough current for a relay either.
