so I have 3 wires total from this camera...

blk goes to ground.. I extended the red with another 22AWG wire and its connected to contant power...and one rca will connect to the rca port on the NAV.

I am trying to understand how does the nav know when to switch the input to the camera?

You want to connect the camera to your positive reverse light wire so that it is ONLY on when you are in reverse. You will then parallel + or - trigger to your radio. It should have a wire for reverse input. Mine is a pioneer and they let you do either a positive or negative trigger. I set it to positive and just paralleled another wire from my reverse lights where the camera's positive lead connected on the tail light harness.

well I wanted the ability to power on the camera even when the car is not in reverse hence connecting to a constant source.. just not sure how it will detect reverse gear..

Ok I understand. I just think it would make it "burn out" faster by being constantly on. Take a wire and tap it into the reverse lights then (positive) and run a lead up to the radio with that RCA you have for video. You should have a reverse trigger wire on the back of the head unit. Connect the lead you ran to the wire off the head unit.

I tried to tackle this misconception in another thread. It turns out that some manufacturers recommend against installing in an always-on configuration in their instructions. However, there is no technical reason for the sensors to fail electrically over time, and while there is still no evidence of one actually burning out there are numerous people reporting long lifespans.

I think the best comparison is to CCTV security cameras that will run fine 24/7/365 for years.

Got the camera installed (always on option) very good for $20 the picture was grainy at night but I do not see are issues with it knowing I paid 20 for it!!

I am thinking of installing a switch in place of the 3 dummy switches... that will kill the constant power and the reverse sensor so I can control always on / off option..

So.. some questions.

1. is this camera working with HDD navigation unit?
2. Where is the video IN connector?
3. It switches on automatically in reverse (also on the LCD), or do I have to press manually AUX?
4. There are any install instructions for this?

YouTube has some videos - even a couple to do a bypass so you can use the camera while not in reverse. They come so that they will auto on the camera when you put in reverse and turn off the camera when taken out of reverse.

My Z has the camera view in the rearview mirror. It is smaller than on a nav but works well.

Good luck.

I've had the CMOS/CCD backup cam for quite sometime now...works like a charm. I advise however getting LED reverse lights to help brighten the area for view by the camera

This is how I have mines setup. It doesn't turn on when in reverse I have to turn it on. I only use it to verify how much space I have left. So I park as normal but not all the way then turn it on to complete backing up.

Great for unfamiliar park jobs!

Everones speculates about it burning out and it may very well burn out quicker being on all the time. It's not a factory piec so it's your money being spent to purschase a new one. I say don't do it, and follow whats quoted!

install is very easy... 3 wires from the camera 1. RCA back of the HU, 2. Blk wire ground it. 3. Red power wire, either connect to the reverse light or to switched power depending on what setup you want.

So, when I put the camera in reverse, I'll have immediately on the LCD the backup camera, or do I have to hit the AUX button?

There is any pictures that shows there to connect exactly in the back of the HU unit?

I found a lot of them on Ebay, can you recommend one?
Also, LED lights for license plate...

P.S. Camera to be PAL or NTSC.?
Some vendors are selling different versions.

very good IMO picture is grainy if the lighting is dark but i dont mind it at all...

what type of HU do you have? this will determine where it will connect...
