My guess is the only "fix" is to replace the whole unit and a true fix would require a different port module that isn't such a piece of crap or that takes a different kind of connector entirely. Will the ipod interface work through the three aux jack ports? If so, I may just switch to that rather than try and have them tear my whole console apart...

I had this problem and replacing the USB port solved it
