Finished Audio Install... Some Final Thoughts
It took me and a friend the better part of two days but the install in done, except for the rear cam. Still waiting on UPS.
I would like to thank SlikNik and his install videos. Watching the videos made me decide to do it myself, and save some $$$. Also thanks to all the people who answered my posts about where to run an iPod cable and the others I wrote. That helped me out so much. Here is what I bought and installed. Kenwood 6960 Head Unit... I really like the unit a lot. The start up time is about 20 seconds, that does not bother me. The iPod interface takes a little getting used to but not bad. I wish there was a better search function for finding different artists. With hundreds of different bands to search for at 60mph, gets kind of hard. Not a deal breaker. The Navigation is Garmin and works great. I also love the DVD player. I bought the Head Unit from Crunchfield Outlet as a recondition. Works and looks great!! Hertz High Energy 6.5 Speakers... Love them. They have great highs and mid range. The small tweeters have brackets that made them very easy to install. Very impressed and no distortion when the volume is high. I bought these from Wickets CAS. JL 700/5 Amp... I don't know much about amps but it powers my sub very good, maybe overkill. The best thing about this amp is its small size. It fit perfectly under the stabilization bar after removing the Styrofoam piece and placing it back over it. I bought the amp from Wickets CAS. JL 13" Sub... Holy Cow!!! I felt like I was in my teens again. Using the amp, I was able to turn the bass down to a good level. But it is nice to know with a twist of a screw, I can rattle my filling out if/when I want to. I was thinking about a 10 inch but went with the 13. Better to turn it down a little with the 13 instead of getting the 10 inch and pushing it to is max. Very happy!! I bought the sub from Wickets CAS. Wicked Stealth Magic Box... I love the fact I can totally hide the sub. I put some hard Styrofoam between the sub box and the plastic cover that goes under the carpet to conceal it. Vegas has a lot of auto burglaries and even though my car is garaged all the time, you never know when you take the car out. As for the sound, very impressed. It has deep bass when you need it and hard hitting bass on rock type music. I bought this from Wickets CAS. Other thing used, was a good amp wiring kit and iPod cable, both from Amazon. I also had to buy a universal 6.5 inch speaker spacer from Best Buy. I had to drill some different holes to make it fit in the doors but it worked great. I think Zenclosers have them but since I was in the middle of the install, I needed something fast. I am not a stereo expert and will not be competing in loud stereo contest. With that said, I am truly impressed with all the products I bought. I could not imagine getting anything louder or more bass. I did not dynamat the car, maybe in the future. With all the doors, windows and hatch closed, there was very little really no rattling. Everyone has different opinions about what is the best for them, but this is what I got and it works for me. I love hearing music the way it is supposed to sound and I think with this set up I was able to do just that, with out spending an arm and a leg. This is not an ad for Wicked CAS, but Nazar took great care of me and got me just what I was asking for and at a great price. He beat everyone on the internet including Amazon. Thank you so much. I was worried about ordering so much stuff sight unseen or unheard and you did not disappoint. I would post pics but there is nothing to see except for the head unit. Again thanks to everyone who answered my posts and to the370z.com. This forum has done a lot to help me with my car. It is a great forum.
