Amp ground wire
I'm installing a JL XD400/4 amp in my 'vette. The battery is located behind the driver's seat. Is there any reason why I shouldn't run the ground wire from the amp to the negative post on the battery?

You could very well do this. I have done it in a challenger I did a install on which the battery was in the trunk as well. I would recommend upgrading the ground wire from the battery to ground if you can sort of what I did for a bmw I did a install on. This will help a big for the power demand. When I say upgrade the stock should be something like 4 gauge and you may want to upgrade to 0 gauge. Although you are not pulling a huge amount of power. Nice car btw

Typically you want to keep your grounds as short as possible to help with noise and interference. There's no reason what your wanting to do wouldn't work but there's really no reason to do it either. I've worked on a lot of boats, in that instance the only ground you have is the battery.

Thanks lads for your input. Metz, the intended location of the amp is only about foot away from the battery terminals.

Probably better to go direct in this case. You're getting rid of two additional terminations to the car chassis.
