Need recommendations for new head unit

This spring/summer I'm gutting my base (junk) stereo. I have all the details except for the head unit planned. I'd prefer a double din DVD unit without Nav...I already have a TomTom nav and I have nav on my phone...I don't need a 3rd Nav unit, especially when nav head units are several $100's more. So, I'm looking for a head unit that will look nice and is high quality...thoughts and/or experiences?

PLENTY of thread asking the same question please start searching before posting.

Sorry just gets annoying the same question being asked every few weeks on here and having so many threads on head units.

Thanks for taking the time to read and respond to my annoying thread without offering any helpful advice. I'll make sure to click your "Need Help Let Me Know" link since you're so...helpful. Much appreciated.

Do you want Bluetooth? Alpine, Kenwood are the top brands these days. Kenwood DDX-616 or the Alpine iXA-W407

One thing I noticed is the majority of Double Din are GPS units, Single Din opens the options a little more without GPS.

im running the real basic pioneer dvd player 3100 from 2yrs ago. you can find these for like $250 or less these days. i also have 7100 in my G. i like them both.

current models are 3200 and 7200, i think.

make sure you wire up a rearview cam when you do the install. :p

Yeah, Bluetooth would be preferred. I'll look up those two models, thanks! In the end I might have to go single din if I can't find a nice DD without Nav.

I don't have a specific price range in mind. I just didn't want to pay $100's extra for Nav when I really don't need it or want it. But the rest of the system is going to be nice (Focal components, 2 JL 8's and JL amps) so I want to make sure I get a decent HU too...I've always liked/owned Alpine HU's, but I'm open to other brands, so I just wanted to see what other people liked.

kenchan 02-10-2011 08:24 PM

oops, i was trying to type 4100, not 7100...:shakes head: brainfarted.

the current version is 4200. although you can probably still find the 4100's for about $350.

If I were you I would look into maybe doing what I did for Trooper and did a nice alpine single din head unit if you are not worried about gps. Lots of good advice in these threads so give them a read please. I stopped looking after page 12 of the search results.

If you want to be the man you need to act like it! There are no stupid questions and you should know that. Sorry if I came off a little firm but thats no way to drum up business and be the go to guy. Just my 2 cents

bigaudiofanat 02-11-2011 06:52 AM

I was no way intending to be a jerk, just saying I know there are a lot of good threads out there asking similar questions. Apology to anyone I ofended.
