iPhone 3G 16GB / iPod Classic 160GB

I'm looking to learn if others have gotten these devices to work as you would expect.

I've got the Touring w/ Navigation (sport as well, but I'm fairly certain that it doesn't matter).

Where I'm at:

(iPhone 3G 16GB):
- Charging doesn't work, aftermarket adapters may address this by swapping the firewire and usb charging pins. Haven't tried myself yet.
- Audio passthrough doesn't work via the iPod adapter. Haven't tried via the AV jacks, but I have no reason to believe that wouldn't work.
- Bluetooth works as intended, no problems there.

(iPod Classic 160GB, approx 95% full):
- Seems to truncate the artist list
- Albums do appear under the artist, but all appear empty when selected.
- Does seem to play from the very first track it discovers (sorted alphabetically), and you can skip forward through all of the tracks (at least a few hundred, didn't test further).

Anyone else getting better results with the same (or similar, in the case of the classic) devices?

Thanks.

My 80GB iPod Classic seems to be working as intended. No issues discovered so far.

The 3.0 iphone update coming this summer is suppose to give the phone stereo bluetooth capabilities, ie. wireless streaming of your music from phone to bluetooth capable device.

I am in the dev program and running the latest iPhone 3.0 beta. While I'm sure it can support stereo bluetooth I don't think the 370z supports that profile, or at least I haven't been able to figure out how to make it work.

I have a Classic I-Pod 160 GB and it works fine. All the artists, albums, genre etc.. are all there. Even my playlists.

I just wish the Genius would work while it's plugged in but so far everything is working fine.

'Genius' only really works if...you know...you listen to the same music as the rest of the people in the world. Throw a couple of obscure movie soundtracks and some japanese stuff and it practically packs up.

Is your firmware up to date? try a resync from scratch (empty and then reload), sometimes the database can get a bit corrupted but itunes just works around it. Or if you're using something other than itunes you may have to bite the bloated bullet and see if that fixes anything.

It's been ages since I updated that iPod actually (I typically stream music these days). Now that you've reminded me I vaguely recall using winamp to sync to the iPod... I wouldn't be at all surprised if that's is causing my problem.

The 3.0 beta may also be causing my problem with the iPhone/370 ;).

I have an iPhone 3g 16gb working in mine. Had to buy a 'Griffin Firewire to USB Charge Converter' to address the charging issue (even tho when it's plugged and showing me the charging screen, the phone still says it won't charge and would I like to switch to airplane mode - go figure!)

As for the iPhone/iPod side of things, that has proved to be a bit temperamental, but I've found that if there is already a track selected before I plug it into the adaptor, then it plays fine - I can access all the functions then (playlists, artist, track etc)

That's an authentication chip issue. The "Made for iPhone" sticker on some accessories basically has a chip in it that says there won't be interference and it's passed Apples approval process. It's a jip and a joke for the most part. So the 'not made/airplane mode' will always happen on the iphone, but shouldn't on a touch or other ipod. Apple is going to town with these chips. Now the headphones have them.

That made for iphone crap only matters for devices that are intended to play media from them. If it doesn;'t say it, it is not guaranteed that it will play music or video from an iphone. The final kick in the balls is that updates to the firmware can cause things that worked in the past to no longer work. My audio receiver is one such example...

Hey guys,

I live in Melbourne, Australia and just bought the 370z. Here, there are no options for the Z. It's either manual or auto. All come with NAV unit and Bose Stereo. No other choices.

However, one thing they don't come with is a USB input in the centre console (or MusicBox). They only have Red White and Yellow (Audio//Video) RCA's in the centre console.

I listen to all music through my ipod. But it is so incredibly annoying having to control your music from the ipod itself, rather than the headunit or steering wheel audio controls.

Can you guys in the US do this? I take it you get the USB input on US model 370z's and that is how you are able to display info from your iphone/ipod on the screen of the NAV unit.

Can someone please confirm this is how you are doing it? Does anyone else have the same issue as me?

Otherwise, what a hot car.

Cheers.

It's not a USB input for the iPod, but a propietary connector. I have the same thing going on in my Scion xB.

Rosh 05-28-2009 03:51 AM

Hey Trema,

Sorry to sound naive, but what is a propietary adaptor?

What does it adapt exactly?

I just want to know if there is any device which will run between the ipod/iphone and the NAV headunit to allow for the ipod menu to be shown on screen and CONTROLLED at the Nav Unit.

Thanks in advance guys.

The cord they use connects the iPod to a special plug in the armrest, at least on the US model. As far as I can tell, it's the same cord they use for my Scion. It isn't a USB cable, though... something different.

This--> OEM INFINITI/NISSAN IPOD CABLE - eBay (item 180361436392 end time Jun-01-09 12:29:35 PDT)

Plugging your iPod in with this allows the A/V to run the iPod through the display.

Download phonebook from iphone 3G to Nav unit?

I have no problem pairing my iphone 3G to use the bluetooth handsfree feature with the Nav unit. However, I haven't figured out how to download the iPhone phone list/contacts to the nav unit via bluetooth.

Has anyone figured this out or if possible? Maybe the big iphone 3.0 update will rectify this??

If not, I have to look up the number on my phone first (as who remembers numbers nowadays that are programmed in your cell) and then can do voice dialing but that half defeats the purpose of having "handsfree" capability...

Thanks.
