sub and amp question
hey please let me know what you think about the set up im going with.
pioneer championship series 12 inch : Pioneer TS-W308D4 Champion Series 12" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils at Crutchfield.com pioneer class D mono amp: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-KYzPB6V...GM-D8500M.html the sub is 400watt rms but the amp is 600watt rms both at 2 ohms. the sub has dual core 4ohms, so it can be wired for 2 ohms. the amp at 4ohms is only 300 watt, so im wanted something to pound harder. A local reputable shop said the sub can handle the 600watt at 2 ohms, but i found a thread online about this amp and sub working together. the guy's sub didnt sound right and had burnt smell. which one should i trust? could the guy wire his amp and sub wrong? Thanks Last edited by nismo 1234; 01-31-2011 at 09:24 PM. |

You're fine. The amp itself won't kill the sub - typically, woofers fail by reaching their excursion limit (bottoming out), not by overheating (with better materials and venting). You'll know if you're killing the woofer.
At 600W, if you're in the car, I believe you'll have a hard time bottoming the sub while you're in the car (if you value your hearing). Get outside and turn it up - that's another story; be careful.

Just make sure to tune your system after install. Look it up in the car audio 101 thread.
