Firewall Run

I am working on a project where i need to run a small (8 guage or smaller) through the firewall. I know you audio guys do it ALL DAY LONG, so I figured this would be a good place to start. I would prefer to run through the driver side, if possible.
I watched the Audio install videos (http://vimeo.com/7507588 #5 specifically at 2:00) and that spot he ran the cable through is actually filled on my car (auto vs manual?).

Are there any other places? I was going to meet up with bigaudiofanat this weekend to see where he ran on the passenger side, but the driver would be much better. Anyone know of any? I through about running up through the shifter area, but with all the movement in there, figured that would be a bad idea. Currently I have the cable run around the firewall using the area between the body panels, but it is very visible and definitely not the best option. I have looked the car up and down and havn't found anything.
