Tweeters?
Ok I'll be the first to admit I'm an idiot. I installed these components Amazon.com: Alpine Type-X SPX-17REF - Car speaker - 75 Watt - 2-way - component: Electronics and wired the crossovers backwards.
I hooked the tweeter wires to the woofer connections on the crossover, so when i turned on the music I blew the tweeters. I need to replace them but i'm not sure what i can replace them with that will be compatable with the alpine crossover. Apparently alpine doesn't sell the tweeter separately. How can I determine what replacement tweeters will run safely with my crossovers? Any help is appreciated. . |

Just simply call alpine and ask for replacements dont mess with mixing different tweeters with a company crossover, they should be able to get them there. I would try ebay or woofersetc.com to see if you can get them there as well.

I tried what you suggested but they said at alpine that they do not sell the tweets separately, and i cant find them anywhere else. Will I need to buy another set of components now? or I was thinking since I am only using 2ch of my 4ch amp what if I just got some different tweeters and wired them directly to the other 2 channels on the amp and set them for high pass and just removed the old tweeters from the crossover, leaving the woofers the way they are (on the crossover attached to the other 2 ch). I hope that made sense. would this be an ill advised option?
or do you think i could possibly find some other tweeters that I could mate up with the crossover that is installed (similar power ratings and whatnot)? |

I'm still having problems with mine...
I've been through 3 tweeters already and they are connected properly. The radio wasn't even loud... :-( Any chance on finding another speaker that will fit in that spot? Is there such a thing as a 2" speaker? |

As I said you do not want to mix crossovers with different brand or different model tweeters.

Should just omit the crossover and do semi active setup using the amp but be careful one slip or wrong setting can blow the tweeters. I would send the speakers back and get something else like polks if you want to do something more simple.

Well I was playing around with the settings on the amp and the Head unit yesterday and I was wondering why I have my components set to high pass and the woofer set to lp? I thought the point of the crossover was to set the freq to where it should be for the woofer and the tweeter. So I changed the 4 ch amp to full range (or off on the switch that says hp, lp or off). There was also a setting on the head unit that changed the "treble freq", I chanaged that too. The distortion in the tweeters appears to be gone!
I'm not sure how having the components set to hp would have made distortion in the tweeters, or maybe the setting that was set on the head unit controlling the "treble freq" was set to cut off the highs?. I'm very confused, but now the speakers sound fine and I have all the midrange that I was lacking before. Btw. I have to keep the sub crossover set really low or else I get some nasty sound. I have learned how important it is to have the right size box for the sub this 10w7 is way overkill for this small zenclosures box. |

What amp are you running? And exactly what settings were you running before?
You say tweeter/woofer crossovers (which makes sense for a 4ch amp), but then you mention a sub crossover. Are you running a separate sub amp?

yeah I'm running the speakers on the 4ch (bridged to 2ch) that run to the components crossover and the sub on a separate amp (with the crossover setting on the amp).

just to let you know for future reference (i see your new), this question would probably be better placed as a new post. In most cases it isn't a good idea to pose new questions in someone else's post. it isn't considered proper Etiquette. like i said though i think that you will find a much better answer to your question if you use the search feature.
