The relay is only there to OPEN the connection when power is applied to cut off the VSS Switch. Nothing to do with the camera

Since I have a DNX9960 I'll use the AUD button on the HU to use the camera while the vehicle is in motion. I will ground the parking brake sense wire. Then all I have left to do is to put a switch between the HU and the VCC wire. Do I still need a relay and seat heat switch?

No, then you can use any single pole rocker switch that is normally on, and switch to off. Or a ON-ON switch would work as well. Easy enough to find. BUT if you want the switch to match the interior of the car, you are limited to the seat heater switch. Maybe you can find another use for the other position such as turning on the rear fog lamp (future upgrade) or Radar Detector mute... just thoughts.
This is an aftermarket automotive switch that would also work but not be as elegant as the seat heater switch. painted this one flat black after I took the pictures and it matched better. I just decided to go with the seat heater switch in the end for complete functionality. I did not insert the switch fully so that i would not do any damage to the finish on the console. Standard ON-ON switch Gloss black rocker. Needs to painted flat black to match better.

yes because the seat heater switch engages 12v to the pins when the switch is activated. You need to use a relay to BREAK the connection to the VSS

Correct. It is an unpowered switch from on to on, or off to on.

OK, I'm trying to get a handle on what I have to do before I start my install. The vehicle is a 2010 nismo. H.U. is Kenwood DNX 9960 I've been studying all links in the forum and I'm still not clear. The photos in the links are not matching up to my harness and adapter. My adapter has 20 pins. It's a Metra 70-7552. I'm thinking since the adapter plugs into the cars connector it will be touching the VSS wire. Which wire on the adapter will be the VSS wire? This is where I'll wire the switch to. Can anyone tell me which wire is the VSS wire on a 2010 nismo? I attached photos of my harness and adapter. thanks

I just installed my camera using the nav tool hookup ( i have the nav system). as far as the power I used the lighter that is located in my armrest. Once you have the center off you will see the wires I am talking about (orange one I believe) I just spliced into that for power and grounded the rest of the wires on a bolt anywhere on the car. as far and the reverse light I just used the same power wire off of the ligher to have the camera come on anytime I flip the switch that is attached to the nav tool. when you are going down the road you can see and it looks like you are going like a bat out of hell especially at night. If you pm me i could probably go out and take a few pics of this install.

Nav Tool is incompatible with the 2010 or higher models...

No problem. The OP is avoiding the path of tapping into the factory harness behind the centre dash AV unit. Once he realizes there is no easier solution, my guess is he will follow the multiple previous posts telling him exactly what to do....

Yes, I am trying not to cut into the factory harness. I'm just looking for a picture of a 2010 nismo connector and someone pointing out which is the VSS wire on a 2010 nismo connector. No link has shown this. The previous posts and links were for G37 and other year and model Z's. I'm trying to know what to expect when I pop that connector off. I tend not to believe the catch phrase "it should be the same......i think" The adapter was sold by Avenue Sound where I bought the HU from. They said that is the correct adapter. I also checked this link to make sure as best I could that it is the correct adapter. Metra Online | Welcome to Metra Auto Parts Online Warehouse It's a 20 pin adapter and none of the links showed a 20 pin connector. I will take pictures of my install and post them to try to make it easier for the next guy.

Sounds like to be certain, you will have to look for yourself. You have the base stereo, right? Then it is 99.9% certain you will find this connector:
Looking at your Metra adapter, it does not have a wire for VSS, but you MIGHT be able to pull out a rear speaker pin/wire and reinsert it for the VSS connection. I started a thread on how to move pins in the Scosche adapter, but have no experience with the Metra. The 'consensus' opinion of the forum was to hack into the vehicle harness (for reverse and steering wheel remote wires in my case; no nav), but relocating pins in the Scosche adapter eliminates the need to do so. You may very well find the same can be true for the Metra adapter. Go for it! |
