First Z System

A little background... I used to do my own installs and installs for friends many years ago. Back then I had vehicles that if something was not perfect it was not that big of a deal as the car itself wasn't perfect. I did still take the time to do the job right and use good equipment.

This is my third Z. I had previously owned two new 350's. A 2004 Touring and a 2006 Base. I had not installed anything is those vehicles since I wanted to make sure it was perfect, but wasn't ready to spend the money. I've finally decided to start putting together a system for my 370 as I just can't take any more years of a stock system.

Still, this is not my dream system, but I think it will do the job for the money I want to spend at this point.

HU: Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD
HU Accessories: PAC SWI-PS, Break Bypass
Component Speakers: Rockford Fosgate P1652-S
Speakers Amp: Rockford Fosgate P400-4
Subs: Rockford Fosgate P3D410 X2
Sub Amp: Rockford Fosgate P700-1bd
Enclosure: ZEnclosures Rear Facing

I've already purchased the HU and accessories and will hopefully be doing the install this weekend.

I've normally ran Clarion or MB Quart for my component speakers, but I figured I would give RF a chance since they aren't that expensive and I've always been a fan of their subs and amps.

Any suggesstions... ideas?

4 speakers... 2 tweets, 2 mids... I want to run them all seperately.... should I not?

Do not that is called active and unless you have patience and get really nice speakers and amps and you will have to use something like a 9887 which is a single din. Its a lot more complex than you think. Even if you use the crossovers for the amps it can become a mess if you do not know about crossover settings and slopes.

As Big said, and you have to make sure the speakers are Bi-Ampable also, which basic comp sets wont be.

Ok... So, then just a 2-channel with the left door and tweet on the left channel and the right door and tweet on the right channel... Easy enough... I will go with the Rockford Fosgate P400-2 then... Like I said it's been awhile. Trying to get back in the swing of things.

yep that would be the easiest, athough is it a 400-2 or a 200-2?

Let me make sure my math is right.....

65W 4-ohm speaker X 4
Amp rated at 100W X 2 at 4-ohms

If I send 100 watts to two speakers at 4-ohms wouldn't that split to 50 watts per speaker?

I know I could get the P200-2 to 100W per channel at 2-ohms, but then I will need to run the speakers in parallel correct? It just seems easier based on the hassle of wiring and location of the speakers to wire them seperately. Maybe I am way off here...

I wasn't sure of the power each amp had, in this case i would go with the 400-2, basically half of the power from each channel goes to a speaker. So if the amp is rated at 100 RMS @ 4ohm x 2 each speaker would see 50 RMS. Each channel is wired to a xover, then the speakers are wired to it.

Cool.. That is what I thought... Just wanted to make sure I wasn't losing my mind... just yet...

No, looks like you'll be good for a bit yet. :)

I received my AVH-P4200DVD on Wednesday and the PAC SWI-PS and break bypass on Thursday.

I began the install last night and finished it up this morning. Everything went very smooth. I ordered from Crutchfield, so I used their installation instructions as well as TennesseeZ's DIY thread.

I have a 6MT, so it was a little different with removing the shift trim ring. It does pop right off, but I didn't remove it completely. Was in the way most of the time though.

As mentioned before, I ordered from Crutchfield, so I used their installation accessories that came as part of the order including the dash kit, wire harness and antenna connection.

I pretty much got all the wiring done except for the PAC SWI-PS last night. I completed that this morning. I cut the wires not used on the PAC to use as extensions to connect the SW control wires and the resistors. I know some people solder those, but I just used 2 sided crimps and wrapped everything with electrical tape.

The brake bypass was too easy. Just three wires and works as expected.

All in all it was a very easy process. Just time consuming doing all the splicing.

The HU sounds and looks great. I haven't replaced the stock speakers yet and they sound completely different. Still not great, but so much better.

I'll try to take some better completed pictures if anyone cares. I definitely need to clean the HU....

I haven't decided on amp placement yet. I'm waiting to see how the box sits to see if there is anything I can do with the space that is left over. Perhaps build something behind the seats in the storage areas.
