Audio - Install Labor Cost

I have been quoted $550.00 by an Audio installer for the following:

Headunit replacement / NAV opertional / Siruis operational.

Replace the 2 speakers in the doors and 2 tweeters in the dash

Install the AMP to run the speakers and wire in an AMP in the back using the same AMP that is running the door speakers.

WHAT IS A TRUE LABOR COST ON THIS TYPE INSTALL.....Take into account that it is a new car, so that always seems to have folks weary about the time needed.

Anyone?????

On the thread I created asking for help regarding speaker, sub, and amp choice, I asked the same question. (Please help me out on that thread, if you can!)

One person in that thread said install of head unit, speakers, and amp would be $99 in San Diego. Is this correct?

What would the install price be in the Midwest? I live in Nebraska.

Finally, does anyone know of independent installers in Nebraska or is there a website that lists independent audio installers?

Thanks

i think different shops charge different for labor. what is the real labor charge? i don't think there is a standard.

$550 seems hi to me. I have nothing to back up that claim other than I had an entire system put into my titan for half that much in MD.

where are you taking it? it's going to be way more expensive at a corporate store like best buy or circuit city as opposed to small, independent, car audio shop. anyway call around, standard procedure.

lets talk about time. I would say this change will take 3 to 4 hours. If 550$ is only for workingtime ... it is high

If he had to mod someparts (modify panel, building adapter for car wiring) moderate price (for good to excellent work)

You also have to consider that this is a brand new car and most shops will not have worked on one yet so they have to take their time to remove panels properly without breaking them. If you wait 6 months or so then I would expect the labor cost to be lower once the shops get some experience with the 370.

At my shop in VA, our labor rate is $85 hour. For the install that you're talking about, I would estimate 5 hours easily. The head unit isn't a big deal, less than an hour, but everything else takes time. For the Sirius, you have to run the antenna outside the car, and hide the wire. For the speakers, you have to take both door panels off, and possibly make some type of adaptor plate if they don't fit perfectly. For the amps, you have to run wires down both sides of the car, from back to front(RCA's on one side, power on the other, to avoid engine noise), and all the way to the battery for power. Plus they need to be mounted to something. $550 may seem a little high, but it's a time consuming job, and if they do it right, it'll tie up an installer for most of a day.
