I have done this to my car and two others quite easily ( I am an elec. tech) HOWEVER, the only reason I have done this was because I am somewhat handy with a soldering iron and because Brian was experiencing a family loss at the time I wanted to do the mod. I bought his camera harness kit first and was extremely happy with the quality and build, and would have purchased the NAV/Camera/DVD hack too if it would have been available at the time.

BUY BRIAN'S MOD! It's worth every penny....
Having said that, I am happy to do mods like this for materials cost plus a coffee to anyone in the Edmonton area, lol!

Otherwise, NAVTool for 2009 cars plus the soldering hack: 2010 Hack HERE. Just use the 2009 FSM for the correct pinouts for power and VSS. The DVD would have to be connected via the NAVtool and the Camera would activate thru the Navtool as well.

As for building a harness to connect a 2010 head to the 2009 vehicle... .... I don't know. The screen is different too....
Da da dammit mannnn.

Sad day. Well guess I'll have to stash a DVD player somewhere lol. Or a 360/PS3 if I can find a place to put it lol. Thanks for the update!

Actually hot off the press, they now list the 40 pin connector that is required to make a bypass kit for the 2009 models.

All I need now is to find someone willing to sell me a reasonable minimum quantity which isn't in the thousands.

To Clarify: This would allow you to build a kit that bypassed VSS only, correct? Or does the 2009 head unit also contain the software for the backup camera already like the 2010 does? Since there is no DVD to enable, that is redundant.

Ah, good point. I was thinking about the GT-R and other Nissan models where they have the DVD player but they use the 40pin connectors (Nissan Murano for example).

However, doesn't the 2009 have an AUX video input? The wiring diagram shows one?

I believe it is in the console/armrest and yes, we should then have a video input to the screen on the connector. Question is: has someone with a 2009 checked to see if the software is on the head unit?

I forget the steps, but I think it is car "on" but engine off; radio off, turn radio volume 40 clicks counter clockwise....

someone double check that.

I'm almost certain that the menu item isn't there.

But can you please check that when using a video input that it wont work if the parking brake is off or if the car is travelling at more than 5mph.

If I can get the 40 pin connectors I would make the bypass kit:
1) Bypass the restrictions mentioned above and allow NAV input which is disabled
2) I could make it support the 2009 backup camera solution so that pressing the other button would enable the backup camera when not in reverse.

I don't mind, as soon as I get off I'll test it out. We're doing the Texas Heatwave show here in Austin so I'm sure someone will let me use a DVD player to test it.

Sounds promising I hope this works out. I am overseas and never tried it out so if I stick a dvd in my cd play on my 09 it won't play the movie?

The '09 370Z does not support DVD in the stock player.

You need NAVtool to connect to a dvd player then input into the Video In

Afghan right now can't really say b/c of OPSEC, but you know how that goes. Glad to hear you made it back. I got out of the Corps back in 05 and now I'm a contractor so I've been doing this for a little bit now. What is this Navtool I keep seeing people talk about?

On the 2010/11 cars the screen has both a composite video in (for the backup camera) and an RGB input for NAV etc. On the 2009 car it just has an RGB input. The Navtool is basically a Composite to RGB converter that allows you to input regular(composite) video from a camera or source like DVD player etc. JeffBlue organized a group buy for the 2009 owners requiring the Navtools while I concentrated on a solution for the 2010/11 owners because there wasn't one.

The other difference between the 2009 and 2010/11 cars is related to the bypass kit, the difference is that the sensing wires (reverse, parking brake, speed etc) are on a 40pin connector on the 2009 cars and 32pin on the 2010/11. Up to this point the 40pin connector wasn't available and hence the kit was only available for the 2010/11 cars.

Just finished the install of the backup camera and the bypass kit. Took me about five hours total taking my time. That's ripping everything out, installing and putting everything back together.

I have purchased a lot of car items in my years, but I have never seen such a well put together kit as Brian's. I have also never seen anyone pay so much attention as Brian does to the instructions.

Excellent product with tremendous support. Thanks Brian!!!

I would have to agree with the above wholeheartedly. Those that have installed either the back-up camera kit, the Bypass kit or both kits can all testify to this. 370Z owner's here are truly lucky to have Brian offering such quality, well performing kits and at such reasonable prices! Those that have not taken advantage of one of Brian's offerings while he is offering them are really missing the boat so to speak.
