Hey dude,

I have attached a picture for you. You 6 x 9 and 85mm mounting depth to play with. If you want to fit a 6.5 inch mid, you can easily make an adapter our of superwood to fit into the standard enclosure, which you bolt and seal to the enclosure (use polyutherane - the stuff they use for windscreen's), and then you bolt the speaker into the superwood spacer/cut-out.

I am fitting Focal Power 165 KR2's. My mounting depth is 70mm for the speaker. I am mounting them 6mm deeper than the standard Bose speaker, so that I have more space between the speaker and the speaker cover - The Focals move a bit more. And you know how it goes.... I like to move it move it

Everybody..............(chorus)

He likes to move it move it..

Just make sure if this is a bose system to run new speaker wire and use a new amp else you can blow the bose amp because of the ohms ratings.

So is your system the Bose, or the standard?

And if it's the Bose, I'm confused about replacing the Bose speakers without using a signal processor like the MTX re-Q or JL Cleansweep, combined with a new amp.

I thought you couldn't just replace the Bose speakers with aftermarket speakers because the Bose amps' output impedance started out at 4 ohms and dipped verrrrrry low across the frequency spectrum, and any aftermarket speaker would cause the Bose amp to clip early and burn out fast.

So, can you just replace the Bose speakers with 2 ohm aftermarket speakers and make no other changes?

You can not or should not just replace the speakers of the bose system. As I said before the first reason is the OHMS second even if you match that you are still getting two separate signals from the bose amp one for highs one for lows so you can not just use your new crossover that comes with the new speakers. Also on top of this even if you were to use it that way your bose system is removing a lot of freq that your new speakers CAN reproduce.

So simply put if you want to replace bose speakers get a re-q5 a new amp run new wires to your new speakers from that amp. You are going to save a lot of time and aggravation that way.

In a word Moto, NO

I have the bose system - being replaced with Sony DD DVD, focal K power speakers with Focal amp, a JL 13 W5 sub and JL XD600/1 amp. Just still looking for a double din radio front panel to replace the Bose front panel.

Just the upgrade to a good 2 ohm speaker is already a big improvement over the bose speaker. In comparison the Bose speaker sounds muted. I did a test run with just the focal 2 ohms in, no other changes, and the difference is impressive. Of course no where near as impressive as driving the focals with a decent amp. I did it just to be able to compare...

As everyone says - the bose speakers really aren't very good.

If you are going to the trouble to change the speakers, rather do it properly - dynamat behind the speaker, dynamat the whole inner of the door, pull through decent wires, drive it with a decent amp, and change the head unit while you are about it. A decent system is going to set you back about $3000

But hey, we like to move it..

A decent sound system 3k? I do not think so. A nice kenwood head unit and a set of polk db's will set you back maybe 1k add a sub and amp and your looking at around 1500. 3k for above mid range system. If you want serious than 6-8k

That gives $ 3 010

And this gives pretty good SQ for the average guy.

Hows my maths?

You math is fine and focal is good, I would not go with sony for a head unit or anything else ever sense there "xplod" line. I would also just not pair them with Jl stuff. I would for a serious install look at Hertz, audioson, zapco, and rainbow. Also focal has different models for how much you want to spend. If you want higher end focals your going to have to spend more. Also do not forget install and labor.

However getting back to the subject at hand you should always run new wires with new speakers. And run a new amp and processor with a bose system to get the best sound out of your new speakers.

Hey guys I know it's prob been said but I am curious if the Polk Audio DB6501's will fit in a 09 base 370z, I know it's been said it'll fit in a 10 nismo but I already bought kicker 6x9s thinking they were right, come to find out I have 6.5" in doors even though my title says its a touring :/ so 1) I need to sell my 6x9s and 2) I want to get some nice aftermarket ones that will fit in with no extra money needing spend for spacers or brackets or anything please!
