Check out the thread "Cabin Noise" in "General Discussions" it should answer most of your questions.

Here's what I used. 9 sheets.

Its a common misconception that loading the car with sound deadener is the answer. Fact is applying dynamat to the flat surfaces is adequate. A second layer using a foam deadener is the best way to quiet the cabin down.

So just putting dynamat in the flat areas like the hatch floor is good? what about the fenders?

speedfreak28 11-08-2010 11:43 PM

flat areas would include fenders, the areas that dont need it are creases and bends in the sheet metal. they tend not to resonate.

In the back floor of the hatch area.....how much should be covered then..? Just the middle?

bigaudiofanat 11-09-2010 04:12 PM

If you are going to do it than do the whole thing where the tire goes.

Dynamat is not all that! I feel Rammat is better and its cheaper and easier to install. RAAMaudio

I put twice as much Rammat for what dynamat would have cost me for half of what I put in. Plus applying just the deadning material is only half of the job. You should apply the ensolite 1/8" foam over all the areas you deaden and you will NOT have any squeaks and rattles ever! Plus you car will be like a vault inside!

My Z is like a Lexus inside! My aftermarket Exhaust use to drone intill I deadened the car, now it sounds wonderfull and refined inside the car.

That stuff looks great, i might go with that just because its cheep and looks easy..did you put this stuff just on the main areas?

wilsonp 11-14-2010 11:49 PM

How much did you use?

2fast4thelaw 11-15-2010 10:22 AM

i used 2 rolls of Rammat and 20 yards of Ensolite. I had the interior of the car completely removed and the entire inside of the car was covered. I glued the ensolite over the top of the Rammat for an additional sound barrier.

I went overkill, 1 roll would do a good job. I do recommend the Ensolite as it is too cheap to not do it.

2fast,

I'm considering going with your material suggestions. Did you have any trouble getting the interior to fit back in correctly using so much material beneath it? I've never done an installation before and am considering doing something similar to what you did.

Thanks for any help. :)

I used 1 order (37.5 sq ft) of Raamat deadening. I ordered 3 yards of the adhesive backed foam. I just cut strips and patched worked the "trunk" with the deadener. and cover the panel and just behind the speakers in the doors. I then foam covered the panel on the doors. I got lazy and was fighting the wind so the trunk isn't foamed. I still have quite a bit left of both. lots of foam

I had one area that gave me a degree of difficulty. the plastic area just under the rear cross member brace. Where the seam is I couldnt get it to snap closed so I used some epoxy putty and some clamps and bonded it shut and the clamps allowed me to close the seam.

Not exactly an ideal fix but it worked well. I am sure when and "IF" i have to remove it down the road I will regret it.

If I hadnt of used the ensolite there it wouldnt have been a problem so just dont put it there and you can save yourself the trouble.

Everywhere else was not a problem.

kree 04-17-2011 12:54 AM

Cool, thanks for the heads up on that spot.

I've already done the hatch with Dynamat and LuxuryLiner Pro. I'm upgrading the audio system soon and I'll be pulling the seats to run the wiring, when you pulled the interior what did you find, was there any factory sound deadening or was it like the hatch area, a whole lot of noisy sheet metal?
