OEM Speaker wires in doors - help please

Per Crutchfield, the OEM wiring for the door speakers is below:

Driver side: purple wire positive, other blue wire is negative

Passenger side: purple wire negative, other blue wire is positive

Can you help me confirm this? I read the shop manual but cant figure it out, very confusing stuff. What happens if you connect the wires backwards on a speaker? Can anyone confirm that the same color wire is flipped for positive vs negative per side? Just put in a set of Infinity speakers and want to make sure all is hooked up right.

Thanks!

If you hook the wires up backwards (out of phase), the speakers cones will go the wrong direction, meaning they'll suck in instead of pushing out withthe sound. The best way to figure out what the wires are is to test the oem speakers with a battery.

Speaker polarity

My speakers wires were flipped. One side the purple was positive, the other side was negative.

Thanks for the info! Do you remember if the purple was positive on the driver side?

I don't remember. I checked both speakers to be sure.

There is no absolutely correct polarity, only relatively correct polarity. That is to say it doesn't matter at all if you get it wrong, as long as you get it wrong everywhere :). I say this with the exception of subs, where it is common to mess around with phasing to get them hitting perfectly in time with the rest of the track.

I am installing Boston Acoustics in the doors with the standard stereo today and Crutchfield just told me Drivers side positive is purple, blue is negative.

On the Passenger side, Purple is positive and green is negative.....
