Nav worth it??

So guys is the nav worth it and if you dont get the nav is there ipod integration?

theDreamer 03-15-2009 06:22 PM

iPod integration only comes with the Nav system.
The problem with just going touring (no nav), is the panel is one large piece. In the base model it is a standard double bin which can easily be removed and place something else in it.

So I believe there are three setups for the radio/CD controls:
Base
Touring
Touring with Nav

thats a little lame , no ipod config w/o nav

theDreamer 03-15-2009 06:26 PM

Yeah, which is why I will probably just go with base and upgrade to a nav system. The other features in the touring might be missed but can all be upgraded.

hmmmmmmmmm..... here is a weird question if you do get a nav unit and decide to change the stereo piece on the bottom would that interfere?

theDreamer 03-15-2009 06:34 PM

Aftermarket nav
This is what I plan on doing, do not think you can get a nav unit in the cubby at the top other than the stock one.

For me, it's not worth it. I have a pretty basic Garmin Nuvi 650 that I use when I need to find places. Don't want to have to fiddle with factory nav and I like my little storage space in the dash. :D

I use my navi less than 10 times per year, but my last 3 cars all had it. I am willing to pay more for the occasional convenice and I prefer the clean factory look. I also like having the large screen to look at music and other functions of the car.

Im leaning towards pushing tins idea especially now that it actually has a glove box

Having a glove box wasn't really entering into my decision, but now that you mention it, it kind of makes sense.

I'm sure if you get the Touring version and want to install the Nav shown here (way cool by the way), you will be able to swap out the face plate of the touring (no nav) for the double din. Then you'd be good to go and you can enjoy the touring extras.

So your saying if I get the nave I can swap out the lower head unit no problems?

ZCarGo 03-16-2009 06:40 AM

I wouldn't go that far just yet. Heck I can't even get touch up paint yet. The parts are just not available.

I would assume (and you know what that means)..that at some point, you can replace the face plate of the touring radio for that of the base radio. If you look at the air conditioning controls, they are identical. In the base, the face plate has an opening for a double din, while the touring is one molded piece that covers the stereo and the air conditioning controls.

I would have to imagine the components for the air are the same and the touring stereo is a double din style hidden behind the face plate. At some point, you should be able to order parts. I would recommend talking to the parts dept at the dealer to see what they can do.
