If the DVD wire has no other effect other than to disable the DVD feature in motion it should be irrelevant to being grounded all the time. That would mean a single switch that could be placed in the console centre position. Centre position for the people with touring model or base as that spot is open on both. A factory style push button switch would be awesome and even better if it had an amber light to acknowledge the bypass mode...
thoughts?

That is a good idea. Would you not be interested in the backup camera bypass? I quickly put the following together for anyone wanting to take the complete DIY approach.

Based on what I'm hearing what I could provide is a plug and play harness to achieve the same results but with NO cutting or tampering with any original wiring. The dilemma is that although the parts aren't that expensive the harnesses are very time consuming to make. I therefore need to to think about the price and get a sense of if people would be interested.

I like your thinking and, yes, a switch that worked like the seat heaters that allowed a forward position to bypass NAV lock and a backwards position to engage rearview camera would be a perfect solution. If we could use a similar switch as the seat heaters I would definitely be in for that solution!

To do it with a single switch it would need to be a three position switch with up, down and neutral, it would also need to be two pole. Any other switches in the car that might meet that requirement and fit the hole? Can someone send me a picture of the back of any switches that might do the trick?

The seat heater switch would work! It is a rocker front to back with central neutral. The front position could be NAV VSS on and the central position off (for input) and the rear position camera on!
This is an image of the aftermarket switch for the fog light sold by the Zstore

These parts might work though. They are the factory seat heater switches.

As far as the bypass kit is concerned....I think the remote is the best option. You can just store it in the glove box or center console, and then you or your passenger can control the settings. It would be like a movable switch console and you don't have to change the interior.

I would be down for a kit using a remote (like the one you made for the GTR). I don't want to add any switches to the interior, and already have the foglight switch in the center console between the seat heaters.

:iagree:
Having a convertible, and heated/cooled seats, I don't have any blank spots.

The downside to this is the cost of the remote transmitter and receiver units. I see your point on this if you already filled the centre position on your console or have a convertible.

Perhaps there could be two options? One system with a switch and one with a remote! I personally do not like the idea of having to look for a remote to engage the NAV bypass or turn on the camera. Switch is better for me...

Are the image links broken for anyone else? I've tried from several machines and it appears to be working.

Actually the remote option wont add as much as you might think. But I can see both sides from a choice point of view. I will price out a kit with and without remote.

I know the NAV bypass allows you to enter destinations while driving...is the NAV bypass also what allows you to play dvds while driving? Or is that something else? If so, than a 3rd button would be required.

djpathfinder 11-30-2010 10:10 PM

I prefer the switch option as well.

dixon cider 12-01-2010 12:59 AM

remote for me. thx.:tiphat:

On the 2010 at least I have a very strong feeling that the DVD bypass (ability to see DVD while driving) will need both the speed sensor (commonly referred to as Nav bypass) and the Parking Brake sensor bypass to be in effect.

Therefore the idea for those wanting a hard/physical switch would be a Dual Pole (or maybe tripple pole) On-Off-On switch like this
Full Size Rocker Switches - 1/4'' Tabs
see 7700044 example.

Dual pole On-Off-On switch solution:
The parking brake bypass would be permanent (not sure I like this idea though. Although there appears to be no downside I wonder if it might through an error at the dealer)
Switch in the off position would do nothing
Switch in the up position would use one pole of the switch to bypass speed sensor
Switch in the down position would activate the reversing camera using the second pole of the switch.

Triple pole On-Off-On switch solution (assuming we could find an appropriate switch):
Switch in the off position would do nothing
Switch in the up position would use one pole of the switch to bypass speed sensor and another pole to bypass parking brake sensor
Switch in the down position would activate the reversing camera using the second pole of the switch.
