Fiberglass Sub box in 370z roadster
The box will be made out of fiberglass. The sub will fire out from in-between the driver and passenger seat. For about 2 weeks I will be having the following items installed in my 2010 Red Roadster.

Also added Some LED lighting in the interior, Here are a few pictures will upload more later when its all cleaned up. It sounds pretty sick, I definitely can not wait to see the pictures, fiberglass is always very expensive but very very nice..:tiphat:
|
Done, Hope you all Enjoy the pics, will update with more pictures later, and video
|
Nice! I have been wanting to do this in a roadster for a while.
|
Any rearward travel issues with the passenger seat? Looks like there's enough room. I've got a JL 500/1 that I may pull out of my Sol when I eventually upgrade the stock stereo, and that may be the perfect place to put it.
|
No problems with the seat moving back on either side, there is just enough room on the passenger side because of the shape that the seats takes towards the bottom.
|
It looks great, but how does it sound?
|
it sounds really good, hits very hard, deep, and precise. I listen to alot of rap and rock music, and sounds great for both types of music. I will try and post some videos soon with the camera i have if they come out good, but i am in the process of looking for a better camera/camcorder to buy, then post better videos then.
|
i posted a quick video of the sub playing, but i will do a walk around video of the setup later. The link is posted above the pictures

Looks good!!

im bumping this box/build because i really like the location.
does anyone else have a box in this location? has anyone built a box like this in a coupe? what are the benefits/drawbacks to this location? OP, how is your box secured? Do you find the plastic rattles too much with the sub in that location? how is the sound quality having the sub firing forward in between the seats? what's the volume of the box? here's a similar build from diymobileaudio (requires a log-in to see the pictures though): Nissan 370z NISMO Edition. Simple Focal setup. - DIYMA.com the sub location is very appealing to me because it doesn't require losing the spare tire or sacrificing trunk space. any more thoughts, guys? |
what are the benefits/drawbacks to this location?
Benefits, saving a lot of space in the Z Drawbacks, cant put a very large speaker in that location. OP, how is your box secured? the mold to the back space was such a good fit that it does not move at all when placed in there. Do you find the plastic rattles too much with the sub in that location? I have no rattle at all inside the car, or with any plastic pieces, but i still plan on putting dynamat inside of the door panels. how is the sound quality having the sub firing forward in between the seats? The sound quality is really good, i was surprised how good it sounded. I was afraid it would be to loud being close to my head, but its perfect its not to loud where its located and hits very hard for 250 watts. what's the volume of the box? Im not to sure what the volume is, i would say roughly around .9 cubic ft. It was mainly just to get the box to fit perfect back there. |
thanks for the info OP!
anybody else put a box here? |
Wow... that looks about as clean as you can get in such a small space. Nice work jtgarza3!!
|
Very nice install, it reminds me of the Viper RT/10 stock enclosure. Obviously yours is nicer looking.
We tried a couple different enclosures in convertibles like (viper rt/10) yours and found that having the sub firing towards the back or bottom makes a lot more bass in the drivers and passenger seat area. I am sure this enclosure sounds great, but the sub will need to fire into a cavity to create a wave. Without getting into too much detail. Non the less it looks great and if you are happy with the results it realy doesn't matter what I have done... this is in no way putting down your work. I respect you for what you have done, it looks great. Realy. Just a professional constructive complement. :tiphat: GOOD JOB. |
hey, can that custom box be made for the coupe? if so how much did it cost you?

Im going to do the same setup. Any ideas about what I should expect to pay for the custom build and install for this project (building the fiberglass box, installing, sub, head unit) ???? I have the amp and sub already but dont want to get screwed on the install of everything.
|
would a 10" sub fit or is the 8" the way to go
|
I'll throw a link to my thread in here so the guys can get an idea of what can be done in the coupe model.

A 10 inch sub may fit in there, but would be cutting it close. The depth of the sub would be a worry as well as the width between the seats. For a custom box like that id say 500-700, Prices around here for sub install is about 20 a sub, a head unit is about 75 if u get nav about 100, amp is about 30. |
Thanks for the info. My installer says that 10" would fit but wanted to make sure. $500-$700 is about right as well. This is what I'm going with-----

I had a custom box made for my Z based on what was shown in this thread! Thanks for the idea.
|
Nice, really like that. I am going to aim for a truck box in the boot... once I can get the Bose system back in working order!
