Base Model speaker upgarde suggestions
I got the Base model, and the sound is piss poor. I dont want to install a whole lot of aftermarket gear, and wiring, amps, and all that just to get some decent sound of the car. I want to just simply replace the stock base speakers with something, that will give me a significant upgrade in sound quailty.
Any ideas, what have people tried? Is the rear empty speaker grills in the back, already prewired eventhough they are empty? |

If you simply want to replace the stock speakers, do just that... replace them. Don't simply use an OEM Bose speaker because the impedance do not match (< 1 ohm typical), so you will risk killing the head unit. It's not worth it.
You will definitely notice a difference in clarity after upgrading your front speakers. As for the rear, you don't really need rear speakers. I don't know if the Base headunit will even drive rear speakers.

Ok, so any recommendation on what kind of speaker to replace the front speakers with?
And are you saying replace just the speakers in the doors (2), or the tweeters by the windshield too?

Speaker choice depends on your listening preferences. Quite honestly, I don't build many systems since I pick the hardware based on spending budget and reviews.
Just remember audio quality isn't perfect out of the box, but you can expect improvements with better speakers. It's a good start. If you can invest in a head unit that offers EQ, you can further tweak the sound to improve the clarity and make it less boomy. My last build consisted of a Clarion DXZ825, MB Quart speakers, and a 10" JL W3 subwoofer. It's not top notch or competition quality, but the way I have it setup I've received positive comments from average listeners. :-) Search for speakers within your budget and look at reviews. If possible, visit a local audio shop and test out some speakers you have in mind. For average case scenario, pick an average head unit and set the bass/treble settings to neutral. Find the speakers that sound best to you. It's a shot in the dark. Also, with component speakers, it is highly recommended that you drive these speakers from an external amp because of the passive crossover.
