Suggestions needed for Subwoofer Upgrade

An 8" would be interesting lots of midbass but not much on the downlow. Single 10 would be best if your looking minimal bass, buy an amp with a remote bass control so you can tune it to your music that your playing. That's what I would do for minimal Bass, once you upgrade the Bass you will be upgrading the rest. Atleast that's what happend to me anyway.

I went with two 10" Alpine type R's pushing around 800watts I love Bass so thats why I went that route. One member here went with two 8" in a real nice custom blue fiberglass enclosure. I think he was saying he wouldn't do the eights again for lack of downlow punch. Search for the install you will know when you find it. CAS enclosure with a shallow 10" powered with a PDX 5 upgrade your fronts and you would be lovin it.

He also had them aimed towards the front of the car and not reverberating to the back of the car first. I do agree that a 10 is going to go lower than a 8 but than you could argue that a 12 is going to go lower or louder than a 10.

I can't put any of this in on the weekend b/c the Z nationals are 2hrs.away from me.

Nice choices, what sort of enclosure you looking at for the 10?

Yea I suppose you could argue that but a 10" covers more of the good stuff than an 8" but going to a 12" from an 8" don't think that would be the sound he was looking for.

The 10 he picked is perfect for his application, figured he would upgrade the fronts wise choice.

I was going to pic up one by Wicked C.A.S. but after thinking about the $450.00 and all the installs and boxes I did in the past,I'm going to make a flush mount .325-.350 cu ft box in the spare tire well(material undecided at this point)one thing I always like to do after I'm done I take it to my local Line-X bed liner place have them place the box upside down and shoot it with the bed liner stuff it adds protection and seals the box well then I carpet the top.

Just make sure the sub will "work" in that small of a box, some shallow subs need a little more. and don't forget to take the volume displacment of the sub.

This would be best, box goes where you want and you don't waste space with thick MDF.

Yeah glass takes time but I think I have found a way to get .35cu ft using MDF and still remain flush,lucky for me that my car is a weekend driver only and occupies a 2 car garage by itself so I have plenty of time to build this.

I know how to use fiberglass (we use it at my work auto body)but I really think I can swing the MDF it will be tight but that's what I want so I have very little movement in the spare tire well.

Someone did a MDF a while back and it came in close to .35, if my memory is correct. He stacked cut out circles of 3/4 inch MDF to create the enclosure. It was loaded with a 10" Pioneer thinline. Jeff Smith measured the internal volume of the spare cavity and it was .64 .... more info here:
