Dynamat Treatment
Just completed the Dynamat rear trunk kit, easy install. Rear panels are easy to remove and re-install is just as easy.
Before there was always this drowning sound from the back, that sound is now gone totally. Huge difference now all I hear is the sound of the engine instead of the rear tires. Money well spent in my opinion!:ughdance: |
I was looking to do this as well. Where did you get the kit?
Any pictures? |

I wondered what the difference would be if all I changed in the car was the dynamat in the back and it's a big difference! Now on to the audio install, oh and if anyone wanted to know where the Bose amp is it's under the front foam block just behind the cross brace on the drivers side, the passenger side has the Bluetooth and satellite unit. |
Dude you paid $200 for this: Amazon.com: Dynamat 19405 Xtreme Trunk Kit: Electronics ???
If so, they seem to have a price match policy... Quote:

I bought this kit plus a roller. Did my trunk and have enough left for the doors. Someone more meticulous could probably cover even more area.
http://www.amazon.com/Dynamat-10455-...2479292&sr=1-1 I concur on the noise reduction. It balanced out the sound. Now I don't hear every bit of crud on the road. |

Still it sounds like it was worth the money, so that means it's really worth 1/4 of the money... ordering  +reps 4 you |

I was able to just drive down to future shop and pick it up no shipping so it was worth the $200, and totally worth every penny I spent. It sucks to be Canadian some times when I see the deals you guys can get down there, no matter how we try it the border wants their cut. Usually costs 25% minimum inlcuding taxes, duties etc. etc. Plus all my hastle to get across the border, plus my warranty issues so I buy local. I pay more but get a ton less headache.:hello: |

Lot's of room now for the new sub-amp and re-q. |
|
how much extra weight is that to do the trunk? maybe 20lbs or so?
|
the bulk pack of dynamat extreme is 36.4 square feet and weighs just over 16lbs.
evenly spready out in key areas you can make the rear and doors very quiet. my nismo was loud before!!!! even had a friend say damn it got much quieter in here. :) the added weight is worth it. |

im starting to put together my to do list for next season. :p so far: - dynamat trunk and doors - while panels off, new front components (probably polks) the Z's road noise level is like 5x louder than my G so this can quickly tighten up my bass response. |
 The Bulk pack is what I used as well. Definitely worth it.

Oh by the way driving around with the Bose Sub going and the Dynamat has for surely increased the factory thump. |

i think i want to do just the trunk for now... do you guys think below is enough? it's like half the price of the bulk. 4 sheets of 12" x 36" (305mm x 914mm). |
Quote:
5 sheets went fast 4 would just cover the bottom and most of the sides. |

|
actually 8 sheets of the 12x36" rings in at $96 so i guess im going with that instead. :p
and the pro-roller thingie. (just doing the trunk this time). |

Don't forget the Scosche panel removal tool from Wal-Mart, makes removing the rear panels very easy. Less than 1 hour and I had the entire rear empty. |

I have a cheezo harborfreight version trim removal tool set I used during the foglamp/rear cam install. Thinking about it now, I shouldve done the dynamat then! :D Should have it installed and done before the weekend. :p |
What made you guys choose this brand over Second Skin? I'm interested in reducing road noise and adding some thump to the factory Bose system. Also, with the Second Skin application, some guys were adding some extra foam liner on top. Just trying to gain a clear understanding.
Thanks |

i used all 8 sheets to do the trunk and the rear arches. :p took like 3hrs. i also added a black foam sheet on the ledge there to improve appearance when i take out the trunk floor. :D will take her out on a test drive over the weekend. http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...19-dynamat.jpg |

did doing the doors help considerably for road noise? |

yah, that would help too, i think! while doing the dynamat last night i was thinking i should maybe do thick foam or something on the inside of the plastic trunk liner bits that cover the rear arch. especially on the driver side there's a HUGE cavity between the exterior quarter panel and the inner panel. i ended up dynamating the driver side outside arch through the rear opening... but i could not reach past the high point. there's a lot of resonance coming from there, i thinks.. |
Motored my Z this am and did notice significant noise reduction.
Noise level is probably about half. There's still plenty of noise but quite a bit toned down. I can hear bass notes quite a bit better now. :p |

Yah, can't wait to do the doors...! :p
|
I was going to do my doors today, but it's too flippin' hot. So I'm inside and the doors are outside. :icon14:
|
Haha, yah, I had 2 fans going when I was inside my trunk the other day. :D
|
Yeah. One of my neighbors was laughing at me yesterday because I had a window fan blowing while putting in my rears.

There is a panel at the door sill that covers the wires going to the back. Pull up on it to get it out. The shelves behind the seat also need to be popped out (up). Once you've done this, then then panels for the rear speakers will come out. There aren't any screws or anything holding any of the panels in. Check your speaker panels after you pop them out. some of the fasteners came out of mine. Let me know if you need any more info. |
