X2 Cameras?

I got a head unit with a monitor. It is capable of having a back up camera. My question is if you wanted to add a second camera could you have them on a toggle switch.

I was thinking (especially when I go coilovers) it would be kinda cool to have a forward looking camera to avoid parking the chin spoiler on the NISMO bumper on a parking block. I'm pretty careful but sh*t does happen.

You are going to have to be careful of two things. First you are going to need a video 2 input one output box not just a simple switch. Second you are going to have to find a camera that is capable of being installed in the fron, because most reverse the video and even if you flip it and hit the revers button on your unit it is not going to look right.

I had a guy with a audio want this done and it ended up not working because simply the camera was not made for front facing.

Just a quick thought, if you ran both + wires to a dual throw switch or using a relay. You can turn the switch on one spot for the front and by turning it onto the second position. Just finding a front facing camera is what you need to find.

Good to know thanks. Are the plugs for these types of cameras standardized or does every HU/Camera maker use different types? Asking because I'd like to look for a forward facing camera, I didn't see one on Pioneers site. They show 2, one regular and one with park distance sendors (both for backing up).

Do you know of any compatible with Pioneer?

All cameras will turn on and off if wired right, not sure of any front facing cameras I looked yesterday.

I'm confused. What would it matter if a backup camera is facing forward? Even if the image is reversed (left to right) how would that affect seeing the distance of a curb in front of the car?

bigaudiofanat 08-15-2010 04:48 PM

Because the curb would be on your left side instead or your right or vise versa. The cameras that are out are made for looking at the rear of a car not directly forward I am not sure how much easier I can explain that.

I think he understands what I meant.

Big I'm not talking about parallel parking along a curb. I'm talking about the parking stumps (blocks) at the end of a parking space.

Ok, than it might work I can not remember how screwed up the image was but it was weird to weird for the guy to use so we scratched it.

metz 08-15-2010 08:54 PM

yeah i figured you wanted to look straight forward. I see no reason it wouldnt work if all your wanting to do is not hit the front bumper. Its no different than backing up.

metz 08-15-2010 08:56 PM

if your doing the rear anyway, get the cam, plug it in and face it forward and see if it will work for you. No harm in trying.

That's what I was thinking and probably what I'm going to do. Not sure it's worth the expense at this point though.

I'm sorry to necro this thread but did you ever find a camera to do this? I'm at the point where I need to get a front facing camera installed. I just scrapped my Mine's lip to hell and I know I should of been more careful, I was just distracted and it happened. I'm so pissed off but invensting 100~200 beats having to repair/re-order another $1200~ lip in the future. -_-

I have not really looked into it anymore. I looked for a good two weeks very little for front facing cameras.
