Measurements show that in a typical concert hall only about 11% of the sound is heard directly from the instruments while 89% is reflected sound that adds depth. I added 3 1/2" Infinities in the rear and think that the rear speakers add a depth you can't get when you are sitting very close (and therefore hear less reflected sound) to the two speakers up front.

Recording artists record their music in two channel stereo not concert halls or 5.1 Dolby surround. Music was ment to be heard in two channel stereo.

I don't know about SQ competitions but you statement about concert hall sound coming only from the front was wrong - reflective sound is very important. It is why music sounds better in a concert hall than listening to it in someone's field. Personally, I think a concert recorded in 5.1 dolby has much more depth than one recorded in stereo.

Actually even concert halls "good ones at least" have absorption material behind the seating to restrict reflectivity of audio so do really good HT systems.

Sorry i gotta side with bigfoot on this one. with the sub or subs in the rear
that is all the feel you need. the 350's where right behind the headrests and there were over powered bad. the only way to blend them was to adjust fade on the fronts way down so the rears could be heard. in a bigger sound stage maybe, in a z i don't think so unless someone mounts to 6x9s in each rear quarter panel. |

I as well am with big on this. The z wether it be a 350z or the newer 370z, they have small cabin space and there is no need for rear speakers. Sorry to anyone that disagree's it is your car do what you want but for me and people that I do work for rear speakers in a z sounds terrible, as big pointed out they distort quickly and if your answer to that is to fade them out than why bother having them.

Focal K2 4"
I've been researching the Focal series speakers and came across these components. Has anyone experienced these in the back of the Z? They could be a nice option.

If you install components in the back you are going to have to mount the tweeters in a new location the speakers back there are coaxial's and do not have a spot for tweeters, I would look for a pair of coaxial's back there if you must have rears. Otherwise your asking for way to much in the highs department.

Them look nice but I agree with Matt, you should go Coax in that location and spend more on the front set. I am also going all Focal, trying to decide if the Power series is that much better than the Poly series. Not sure, I was also thinking trying to do a three way setup for the fronts. Buy some new front kick panels do a fiberglass enclosure 4" in there, that would be a fun project.

Go with the poly, much better response also good luck getting 3 ways in a z, with your legs being right up against the panel I would stay with 2 way, even if you put a mid in the dash it would just look to stupid not to mention the steal me factor. I am running 3 ways in my civic and I had a hard enough time finding a place for the mids. As long as you are looking at focal give image dynamics a look as well, more tame tweeters and smoother as well.

Im doing a 3way setup in mine, Morel Elate's. I havent decided fully on positioning yet, but the 3" fits in the dash so it will probably be upfront. Ive built alot of kicks, but in this car I think to get the positioning right it will be too intrusive on my feet.
