Default Burn CD's onto the Music Box Hard Drive???

I've been over the owners manual, and asked at the dealership, and still have not been able to "successfully" burn CD's to my hard drive.

Does anyone know how to do it?

When I tried to burn a CD, I set it up as per the owners manual, and began to play/copy the CD. I did not want to sit there and listen to the whole album, so after a couple of songs, I stopped it. I noticed that about 7 songs out of 22 were copied.

To burn the whole CD to the drive, do I have to listen to the whole thing?

When I bought the Z, the salesman told me that the whole CD would be burned to the hard drive within a few minutes. I don't think this is true, or at least I can't get it to happen. And no one at the dealership knows how to do it either.

This is one of the main reason's I opted to not get the NAV package. The hard drive and CF slot is way behind in technology features. I don't understand why they can't do away with the CF slot and incorporate a USB slot instead, and allow you to copy files from USB drive to the hard drive. Why in the world would they even decide to go with the CF slot to begin with...no one uses CF except for DSLR cameras....not for music and MP3's. It would be interesting to poll all Nissan and Infiniti owners on who's copied music to the hard drive and who uses the CF slot.

I bet the salesman that told you a few minutes has not ever actually tested this feature before...most sales people don't really do hands-on research. However, I would tend to think the copy process would work the same as ripping a cd to your PC...so I wouldn't think that it would require listening to the entire disc to copy all songs.

I have the 09 NAV with the hard drive. It copies the entire CD (you can't pick and choose songs to copy, but you can delete individual songs after it is done). It only takes about 1/4 (going by memory here, I haven't copied a disk in a couple of months) of the total CD playback time to burn the disk. So if the disk has about 12 songs, the process will be done after about three songs have played back.

its the drunkest way of copying music. but yes, it will copy the hole CD, faster than it takes to listen to it, but it takes like 1/3 of the time still. its such a stupid way. i tried doing it yesterday, i did 2 cd's, and got fed up and from now on i'm only gonna use my ipod.

Well it's not so bad. I use my Z as a daily driver and I simply copied a couple of CDs each way to work. After a couple of months I had about 250 disks copied. So now that I am done, it is fantastic.

But yes if you just want to copy all of your disks in one shot, you are going to be busy for a long time, lol.

Thanks to all who replied! I appreciate it.

Looks like I was on the right track, just gave up too soon thinking I was missing something and not doing it right.

I am going to try again. I will copy a CD while listening to it, then if it all isn't copied when I am ready to shut down, I am going to resume at a later date and see if it picks up where it left off.

If that's the case, I can live with that process quite well. I hope I don't have to make a job out of it by having to take allot of time per CD to get it copied.

Even if that's the case, it's still a good thing to be able to copy, edit/delete, and store on the hard drive.

I still think this was a stupid design flaw. I would have loved to have been on the design team who thought this up. I think my thoughts would be "Really?...No, Really? You want consumers to copy their music to the hard drive from a CD? This is practical on a computer but not in a car. A compact flash slot? Really? Come on guys...this is the best we can come up with? We freakin' created the GTR for Christ sakes!" Nissan really needs to change this up with a USB port and allowing ripping from the USB.

Well there are copyright limitations involved here too. So any method is going to be somewhat convoluted.

Not sure what's so bad about it?? You stick a cd into the slot and let it copy while it plays back, or listen to another source (it will still copy while listening to another source I am pretty sure). At least it copies faster than the playback and you can delete the songs you don't want after the fact. It's a little time consuming, but very easy and who says you have to do it all at one time?

To me the biggest negative to the hard drive is not being able to select specific songs while driving, which is why I am modding the system to be able to do that. If you want to complain about anything that to me is the biggest issue. I can drive while glancing at a song list intermittantly without a problem, so please. Anyway it's alot safer than dialing or the ridiculous texting while driving which is suicide/murder imo.
