Kenwood DNX6160 Reviews?
I'm about to order a head unit with nav, but I'm not quite sure which one to get. I really like the fact that Kenwood uses Garmin for their nav, so I'm leaning that direction. Also I would like to spend under $1k for the unit, so the 6160 seems like a good bet. But I read some reviews on amazon saying that the ipod integration is poor; laggy, takes a long time to change tracks, etc. Anybody have experience with this thing? Any other Kenwood unit you can recommend? I'm mostly interested in ipod/iphone integration, bluetooth functionality, good navigation, and as few bugs as possible. Thanks.

I have the Kenwood 9960 with iPod int. I'm not sure what some are calling "slow" reaction. When I use my steering wheel control, I often get instantaneous changes between songs. Sometimes it's not, but a lot of the time, it is quick. IMO, some people are too impatient, but for my needs it's plenty quick. I've had two different Kenwoods (8120 and 9960) and both of them have been great units.
You might want to look at the DNX7160 if you are wanting to use navigation a lot. It has Junction View, Lane Assist and built-in Navteq Traffic. The Navteq is awesome. If you have a route set, it tells you of problems ahead and will re-route you around it. If you don't have a route set, it still warns you of traffic ahead. Here's a comparison. http://www.kenwoodusa.com/ComparePro...NX7160,DNX6160 PM Wicked CAS to see what kind of a deal he can give you. Nazar is a great guy and is a Kenwood authorized dealer. Tell him I sent you. (Brian Murphy if he doesn't recognize the screen name). They're in New Hampshire. Last edited by TreeSemdyZee; 08-02-2010 at 07:18 PM. |

I have the DDX 616, which is basically the same unit w/o navi(which i hope to add later on ). The ipod integration is not bad, though sometimes ipod screen might freeze (other apps will work) and you'd have to restart it.
In the beginning I thought it took too long to turn on and start up, but now i'm pretty used to it and it doesn't seem so long anymore. The bluetooth/mic has been working well for me, never had a problem with it and people don't have problems hearing me. |
