Axxes install

Ok, new stero install almost done. Tried the auto detect which according to their website will work, however I can only get the volume up and down to work on the steering wheel. Does anyone have one installed with full steering contols? If so, what's the trick? Their website said there were no updates to download for Nissan, let alone the 370.

BTW, what a difference adding an Alpine ixa305S, Alpine plug/play amp, and Polk db6501's.

NewYorkJon34 08-01-2010 07:06 AM

For the 370Z you need to update the metra axxcess unit online

F1loco 08-01-2010 07:18 AM

Crap. Can I get the cable at Radio shack, or do I have to order on line?

NewYorkJon34 08-01-2010 07:47 AM

You could order it online, it's the metra USB-CAB

NewYorkJon34 08-01-2010 07:51 AM

Also after constant testing, I have found the correct wiring for the metra kit. I have a kenwood headunit so I don't know if that makes a difference, but the correct wiring is:Grey/pink to blue (front) -> grey/blue to pink. Don't forget to Rep+

TreeSemdyZee 08-01-2010 06:26 PM

How did you connect the wires? Did you solder or just use clips?
I had a lot of trouble with the source and selection button with both the Pac and the Metra. I finally got a real good solder connection and it works flawlessly.

You may have a good connection, but you might have to do a manual programming of the unit. I manually programmed mine. If you watch the flashes, it should tell you whether it is detecting both connections. If you need the documents, let me know and I can send you a link.

NewYorkJon34 08-01-2010 08:39 PM

Ya the auto detect is $hit as well, this unit needs to be manually programed.

F1loco 08-02-2010 12:32 PM

Guess I will pull the unit this weekend and try to run a manual program b/f spending $50 on a cable to update it....I've really only got volume up/down, source, and select up/down on my steering control anyway....

jayl 08-16-2010 01:02 PM

Hey F1loco,

I had the same issues. I called their support and the guy asked me to use 120k ohm resistor during programming... since kenwood is bought by JVC blah blah

I used that and the volume up/down worked but nothing else so I decided to do the firmware update... did that yesterday and now i will have to reprogram using the resistors...

How did you get track / source to work?

Thanks,
jay

kenchan 08-16-2010 01:19 PM

this is why i bought the PAC-PS this time and last time. axxess does not seem to work at first try where as the old modules (PAC/Peripheral) works just fine...

jayl 08-16-2010 01:32 PM

haha thats funny because I had the pac swi jack; and was told that axxess is much better so i bought that ... but now I have both!...

but i take it your PAC is not the swi jack?

kenchan 08-16-2010 01:44 PM

hahaha, yah, mine is for pioneer/sony for steering wheel buttons. i was about to get the axxess but read about people not being able to program so just went the old fashioned way. :p

jayl 08-16-2010 01:45 PM

off topic! sorry.

the pic in your avatar... is that a toy PG ? if so where did you get it ?

F1loco 08-16-2010 02:02 PM

Got to find time on a weekend to pull the HU out and get to the AXXES and try manual programming. Auto will only do the volume w/o any updates. I was hoping to just manually run through all the settings w/o the need of updating firmware...let me know how it goes with the updated software and if you have to still manually program or use the resistor...

jayl 08-16-2010 02:06 PM

if you are asking me about the update... I did it and lost the programming so I tried auto and manual none work... so will have to go get resistors to do the manual programming.... i just hope all controls work after that.. I am tempted to take it to a car audio place and have them do it ... but cant decide.

yah, it's a ChoroQ Hybrid RC... my wife got it for me while she was visiting japan. i think a few places have it on ebay/amazon.

as far as re-programming, why not just get a new PAC from amazon for like $40 and just do it correctly? :stirthepot:

NewYorkJon34 08-16-2010 03:34 PM

Cus Pac=FTL, lol

khern11 08-17-2010 12:00 PM

so the updating cord does not come with the metra axxes kit?

kenchan 08-17-2010 12:04 PM

just get the PAC. they work just fine and no download needed.

No, that another $50 bump...

DeEePiDDy 08-21-2010 05:13 PM

Has anyone been able to get this to work properly? I'm getting ready to do my install and bought this unit...

Gmendez 11-01-2010 09:47 AM

Still on the fence here....I;m getting ready to install a Kenwood DNX6960 in my 2010 NISMO. I have heard that the PAC is way too slow (operation) and the Axxes, while it functions instantaneously, cannot be programmed without some cable. What's the real story?? DOES ANYONE KNOW??

pg6speed 11-01-2010 09:58 AM

No extra cable needed for the AXXES I installed one in a 2010 Nismo this weekend. Just wire it up per the directions and then manually program it and your controls will work with no lag.

Gmendez 11-01-2010 10:20 AM

Great, thanks!

Carbon_z 11-01-2010 11:33 AM

so you dont have to manually install the PAC like you do with the Axxess? What are the install instructions on the PAC... I about to order one of these little demons to work with my double din but trying to figure out which on involves less head ache.

NewYorkJon34 11-01-2010 01:50 PM

For anyone that is undecided on which one to get, trust me and get the axxess unit. I have experence with both on this car, but the pac was just a real pain to work right (which it doesn't) and it has a lag to it. I have the axxess and love it, no lag at all and is easy to install. You will need to get the update cable though, but it works just as good as OEM.

DeEePiDDy 11-01-2010 03:27 PM

agreed.. My Axxess had to be manually programed, but it works perfectly and there is Zero lag.

bigaudiofanat 11-01-2010 06:48 PM

Go with the metra to anyone who has not decided its a great unit and better than pac.

mototrmpt 11-02-2010 09:58 AM

Does anyone have the Axxess update cable that they no longer need and are willing to sell for a discount? I'm still having problems with getting the pre-set station up and down contols to work. They currently only go up or down to the next available station. Anyone else having this problem? Does the upgrade fix that problem?

PM me if you're interested.

spinhead 11-02-2010 10:17 AM

I got Axxess to work with the base steering controls. Didn't need any extra cables, but had to program manually.

Look here

alvinmathew88 11-02-2010 11:47 AM

Umm.. Moto, you do realize that its a USB serial cable right? Which can be had for $20? Google USB TTL cable, and i believe, you have to snip two wires to match the 4pin on the Metra Unit.

bigaudiofanat 11-02-2010 04:20 PM

You do not need to update it. Just do a manual setup thats all

mototrmpt 11-03-2010 02:36 PM

Guys,
thanks for the suggestions and recommendations. I originally set the control manually, but as I've stated above the controls just move to the next available station.

I'll give it another try when I have time to mess with it. If it doesn't work, I'll try get a USB TTL cable, update the controller and try it again.

Thanks,
Lance

Unclemeaty 11-05-2010 08:17 AM

You really dont need the USB TTL cable.

I have a writeup on how to get all buttons working here:

http://www.the370z.com/audio-video/2...l-buttons.html

You need access to the unit so you can press the reset button plus watch and monitor the red LED. Read the directions 3 times before doing anything.

jayl 11-17-2010 11:39 AM

I finally got this to work!! it was so easy... Every time i had tried i did not do the manual programming for the HU, only did the Car detection piece and tried the auto for the HU programming.

Last night did both manual programming and it was very easy to get working.

F1loco 11-17-2010 11:57 AM

That's good to know. You've inspired to pull my dash apart to program it now...now what on earth did I do with those directions?

raiquan 11-17-2010 12:27 PM

So just to be clear: Is it Grey/Pink to Blue and Grey/Blue to Pink. Or is it like the manual says: Grey/Pink to Pink and Grey/Blue to Blue. Please clear my cluttered brain?

I had kinda given up but then I ordered another metra unit for my wife's car and thought of giving it a shot ... had no luck since I did not follow the steps for manual programming on the HU detection, was about to give up after 5-7 tries of unsuccessful programming and it BAM it worked!!, so took the old module and programmed it in <2 minutes!! :happydance:

Just be patient and make sure you do the manual programming as per the steps...

good luck!!
