too much juice?
hey guys i have an Alpine PDX-5 amp that can be bridged to apply 150 watts to my new componets, Focal polyglass 165VR. the Apline amp says on its verification certificate that the amp actualy runs 108 watts per channel instead of the 75 it advertises. thats great to get more power but the Focal's are rated at a max of 150 watts.... will i screw them up if they are getting 216 watts instead of the max of 150?
thanks in advance yall, Nick |
As long as your gain is set right you should be okay.

thx cptspeed. any idea what setting i should be running on the amp?

In general, set the gain from full ccw to about one third turn. Then set the volume on you head unit at three quarters. Slowly turn the gain cw until you can just start to hear distortion, then back off just a little. Their is a more scientific way of doing it with a meter but this way seems to work fine.

As said above as long as your gain is set if you look in car audio 101 it will give you an idea of how to tune your amp so you do not harm your speakers. BTW alpine amps are usually under rated like you see with the birth sheet.
