Best Sub Box for 370z

I'm looking for a subwoofer enclosure and subwoofers for my 370z. ive seen some that fit in the space for the spare tire,http://www.the370z.com/attachments/p...-8w6-sub-4.jpg
and some that sit next the brace bar in the "back" of the trunk.

out of personal experience, which is a better setup? I dont really want to lose the spare tire, but if its a much better sysytem them ill buy it.

I personally like the one that sits behind the bar.

For two reasons your not limited to what you can fit in the box, and you will get better bass from something that is aiming towards the rear and can come forward rather than aiming straight up. Also the ones in the box will have more throw than the ones in the stealth boxes.

Zenclosures FTW!

All comes down to your wants / needs. If space is not a problem , get the bigger box that goes behind the bar if you need the space and want the stealth look def. get the spare tire box. I went with the spare tire for space and stealth only !!

Hey big, based on that, are you against using the Zenclosures upfire box?

Only reason I ask is they don't have a rear facing box for 2x 10" Kicker subs... only the upfire. And I don't only wanna put 1 of the 2 I have in there and have the other just sitting around...

I'm not doing a Zenclosures, but My audio guy is custom building one that sits in a similar placement, and only charging me around $180 for it! WIN

any reccomendation on what sub to get if i get a 1 10" or 12" sub from the Zenclosures box? are there any subs that work well that have the amp built in?

Jesse_Hunter 07-09-2010 05:13 PM

I got a kenwood 12" because I'm using a DNX 6860 headunit and kenwood 1800 watt amp. I decided to just go all same company.

Everyone I have talked to in person about what size/quanity of subs to put in my Z. They have all said that as a small hatchback 2 seater coupe, anything you put in it will sound good.

I have a zenclosures box w/2 10's facing rearward. You must be talking about the square ones.

Yes, the Kicker L7's... they are awesome. And unique too... So just an added bit of flair I guess... :icon17:

Yeah I had an L5 it was awesome as well!

LoL I'm not doubting the sound quality, just wondering about bigaudios comment about upfire vs rearfireing boxes...

The debate of which way to face a subwoofer matters more in a large room than in a car, but you'll still get different sounds in a car by facing the subs in different directions.

It's generally accepted that you'll get more "bass" (or "boom") by facing the subs to the rear. Some people report better SQ from front facing subs but I've never noticed. Depending on the trunk design, upwards facing subs could produce anything from more bass or more rattle. In reality it all depends on the enclosure and trunk design.

All that being said, I'm a huge fan of my Zenclosure single 10" box. Someone mentioned them getting a box custom made somewhere else for cheaper. Zenclosures custom made my box (via a phone call) to match the volume perfectly to the sub I purchased. Great customer service and I received the box to my house impressively quick.

I recommend rear firing you will get more bass with less effort. No reason for a kicker l5 or l7 in a z IMO. A nice 10 inch or a 12 if you want a bit more power will work great.

Wouldn't the kicker l5 (or l7) give cleaner base not necessarily louder if paired with the proper amp as opposed to an average 10 or 12" sub?
