Default Different nav installation

So I just ordered the pioneer headunit and I was looking at what installaitions were available but is there a way to get a factory cubby nav piece and midify it to fit another nav? Are the lower buttons needed? I think a new piece would look better than taking the lower radio out and installing a new plastic piece under the cubby
