I believe Modshack has recently come up with a new variation of GPS mount, the one I was referring to that ModShack came up with is shown here...
http://auffarth.com/Bill%27sFolder/242.jpg. This bracket with a hardwire coming from the cubby hole is a terrific way to go.

Question, what unit do you have. As of now I'm using the Magellan Maestro 4700 and it fits inside the cubby just right so that you don't need anything to hold it in, it's a perfect fit. I just open the cubby and there it is. Although I went out and purchased the Magellan 1700 (7" screen) today and I'm planning on making a custom mount that goes in front of the cubby door. I wasn't crazy about having the cubby door open when I was using the nav, but it is a great stealth look. To each his own. If I don't like the look of the 7" on the outside I plan on keeping the 4700 where it is.

This one http://auffarth.com/Bill%27sFolder/242.jpg requires absolutely no drilling and will work well with your Nuvi 255W.

I really like your idea about putting the magellan maestro 4700 in the cubby. But i have a question. How do you charge it, since the power plug is underneath the gps unit?
