Default 2010 Nav unit noisy iPod connection

Just got my '10 with the Nav unit and I quickly noticed that when listen to my iPod nano there is a scratching and popping sound on every song I play. It is very similar to listening to a old record where you would get noise from the needle. It does this on all my songs. I guess it could be clipping but I have used this iPod with my Pioneer F700BT and my wifes '08 G35 and have not noticed the noise. Anyone have a similar experience or know what I can do to prevent it.

I wanted to bump this now that there has been more time for people to pick up there '10s and get to know them. I am still having the popping and scratching sounds and I have used my ipod nano with a couple of other brands of car stereos and only have the issue in my Z.

The noise is worse on quieter songs, it's almost like the headunit is compressing the audio from the ipod to make it louder and this is in turn causing clipping. Does anyone else notice noise when listening to their ipod?

Are you connected through the AUX jack (3.5mm)?

Both my ipod and iphone had this problem even with the cases off, I just got a cheaper cord that's smaller and more secure (won't wiggle as much).

No, I'm connected through the USB jack in the center console, that way I can use the nav screen to control the ipod.

Well I got the update for the '10 navigation systems, it helped my Android cell phone connect better but it did not help the skipping and popping iPod issue. Still no one else with this problem?

I started a thread for the same issue. I guess I'm not the only one having issues with iPhone/iPod USB connection. I have yet to find a reason nor the solution to this problem. It sucks having to burn all songs on MP3 cds to listen to music.

WilsonP, I copied 4 songs from my iPod to a USB drive and went down and played them in my car. The USB playback was flawless, no poping or skipping, the same 4 songs on the iPod all popped and scratched. Definitely something with the iPod interface.

FairladyZ10PG, I agree, I even pointed it out to the dealer service rep after I had the Nav update. He suggested I bring the car back and have them look at that specific problem. I plan to but it's been hard to set aside a day to be without the car.

I had this same exact problem when I connected my Ipod/Iphone via the USB.

The problem was with the cable I used. I went inside and used another cable...a white apple USB cable and the popping/scratching went away. I was using the cable that came with my aftermarket charger and for some reason it was giving me the cracking and popping sounds. It really sounded bad....swtich your USB cable to the original apple cable..and see how it sounds...

AllForTheCash: I own 2 ipods, both bought used off of ebay. I tried both cables and neither cable fixed the popping sounds. I assumed they were original apple cables (more on this later).

I finally got around to taking my car in to have the dealer look at it yesterday. They tried my ipod and 2 others and all 3 made the popping noises in my car but did not make the noises in another car there at the dealer. This other car had one of the specialized cables that come with the car so they were not using my cable. They then tried a different cable (this one an original ipod cable someone there had with them) and like magic the noise went away.

I went today and paid waaay too much for a new cable at the Apple store ($19.00) and sure enough problem fixed. I compared the 2 cables I already had to the Apple cable and there is a subtle difference in the look of the cables. I did some searching on Amazon.com and found a fair number of people buying non-Apple cables and having problems. Not everyone has issues but some do. The bottom line is if you buy a non-Apple cable there may or my not be problems and you won't know for sure till you try it out.

My iPhone had the same symptoms when connected via USB. The issue was resolved by Apple's latest iOS 4.2 update which addressed the USB's playback reliability. I've experienced absolutely no problems ever since.

This is great guys, I've been struggling with the same problem. However, I have an aftermarket system. It's an Alpine with the iPhone interface USB cable.

Background: installed system in August and it's been working perfectly till last month, when I noticed this problem. I tried the different cables, my wifes iPod, and iPhone. No luck. I see this post this morning, up date to 4.2, and what do you know! The frigging noise is gone!

I knew it was not my system, since A2DP was working perfect with Pandora and iTunes!
I'm so happy now!

I have an ipod touch connected through the USB. I have not had any issues using the apple cord. Sounds like your IPOD may need a software update.
