I am not sure which install you are referring to. The install of the OP of this thread has his iPad loosely mounted by wedging some clip holders into the cubby door. I can't speak to the safety of that type of install.
As far as my install is concerned... My install is different. My iPad securely rests within a commercial cradle specifically designed for the iPad, which is hard mounted to a Lexan plate which is directly mounted to the chassis of the car. The cubby has been completely removed and replaced by the Lexan plate. If an impact would dislodge that connection, I would have bigger problems than an iPad flying around.

Glad our ideas helped save you some money. Now it's up to you to decide which method to use. The easier/painless route which doesn't require you tearing your dash apart, or the more time consuming/flush method. May take more time and require some custom dash work, but IMO looks really good!
