Default Want to keep Nav and ditch the Bose....Help

My car has the touring package with navigation/Bose and I'm trying to figure out what options I have. I want to the factory headunit and ditch the blows..I mean Bose.

I absolutely must keep all the factory features i.e. bluetooth, Nav functions, steering wheel controls, ipod connection, etc.

I've got some nice audio stuff from a previous car that I'd like to use if possible.

JL audio 450/4
JL audio 500/1
JL audio 10W7
MB Quart QSD 216's

So what I'm wanting to do is keep the factory headunit/Nav and make the most of the audio equipment I've got sitting in my closet.

From what I've read on the forum it looks like I need a JL cleansweep or something simular, is that right? Will that allow me to keep all the factory functions and ditch the Bose speakers and amps? Is using a cleansweep the best way to accomplish what I'm trying to do?

Secondly I don't want to loose my cargo space to a huge box which is what that 10W7 will need so I was thinking (I don't even know if you can do this) about using the 450/4 to power the MB Quart QSD's as my front stage and then bridging the rear channel to power a smaller sub.

Can the 450/4 even do that and if it can what kind of sub would be a good match.

Lastly with the QSD's as my front stage would I need a rear fill? I didn't have one in the last car that I had this system in and was happy but if the 370 is one of those cars that needs a rear stage to sound right then that would kill the plan to use just the 450/4 to power the whole system.

Lots of questions I know but I want to make sure I know what I'm doing before jumping into this.

in advance

I just put a MTX-ReQ5 in my Z (Touring with Nav). You connect it to the speaker outs of both Bose amps. I replaced the front speakers and disconnected the rears speakres.

It's easy to get to do. If you want to keep your cargo space then lose the spare tire put a large flatter box in it's place.

I'd use both amps but that's me, your W7 is going to be power hungry. I bridged Punch 600a4 to run my fronts and ran my 12" to a Punch 250.1

losing the rears also lets you use your fader as a bass volume control.

Ok, thanks.

Any input on using the 450/4 to power the whole system?

As long as you are not running any rear speakers which I would advice with, it will run everything but so will the alpine pdx 5 is you want something just as small with very good power.

Ok I'm banging my head on the wall trying to figure out which "factory sound processor" will be best for me.

I want to run the MB Quarts as my front stage, ditch the rear speakers all together and add a Zenclosures box with a couple of 10's.

The 450/4 is just too big to be hidden anywhere so I might just sell it and buy a 300/2 to run the front stage.

The 10W7 is just a monster so I'm going to try and sell it too.

The 500/1 (and 300/2) should fit under the seats. The 500/1 should push 2 10's nicely.

I've gone through so many threads and I'm now more confused. It looks like if I use the cleansweep that I'll also need a re-Q for the sub. Is that right?

Also it looks like the cleansweep does a good job of zeroing out the factory EQ settings but it gives no tuning ability. And it only zero's out the factory EQ at one specific volume so if you want to keep the bose from interfering you have to use the volume control on the cleansweep. On top of that I'm not even sure how it works with the speed sensitive volume function.

The re-Q and re-Q5 look like they just keep the Bose from killing the bass as the volume increases. I don't know if either of these will help me accomplish what I want.

This is such a confusing PITA. I'm afraid I'll spend a ton of money and have a crap sounding stereo, or one that ONLY sounds good at one specific volume.

On a side note anyone have any recommendations at to what 10" subs would be a good match for the Zenclosures box and my 500/1?

I would just use the re-q 5 for eq and the alpine pdx 5 if you need a small amp that will fit somewhere.

The image dynamics q is a great 10 inch sub that I would recommend

Wish you were on the west coast bigaudio =) Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions

I have the bose/nav system, and as a result I am in the same boat as Boosted Josh

From what I've read so far on the forums, if I wanted to add a subwoofer the setup would look like this:

Bose HU -> Stock Amp -> RE-Q (Or RE-Q5) -> New Amp -> New Subwoofers.

If later on I wanted to upgrade the speakers,

would I be able to just do this?:

----------------------------------> Amp #1-> New Speakers
Bose HU -> Stock Amp -> RE-Q5-<
----------------------------------> Amp #2 -> New Subwoofer

Or would it have to look like this:
------------------------> JL Cleansweep -> Amp #1 -> New Speakers
Bose HU -> Stock Amp <
------------------------> RE-Q (or REQ5) -> Amp #2 -> New Subwoofer

Thanks in advance!

I run the Fosgate 360.2 with my QSD's, Jl amps and a JL sub in my Infiniti FX. The Fosgate 360.2 is a great piece and has a ton of adjustability, set ups and eq settings as well for the sub too and its all via blue tooth which adds an extra touch of coolness

I posted some pictures at the bottom of this thread
For those who installed aftermarket speakers w/ the stock headunit

OP yes that is correct just make sure to get the re-q 5 and not the normal re-q.
