Disabling the parking brake video lock
I have an appointment to have my stock nav/ parking brake video lock disabled tomorrow. I want to be able to have a movie on for long trips(for the passenger of course). I learned almost the hard way, no driving and watching porn!! I hooked up my iPhone and watched a few videos today and it rocks. My question is has anyone else done this yet? I haven't seen any posts about it. I am looking forward to transformers or top gun through my system. My Durango had 3 screens and DVD in it and those movies would make the DVD skip. Ah digital movies thank you!!

You just need to get the dock to av cables from the apple store.($50 or so) to get video out. Its a standard rca out two audio one video and plugs directly into the ports in the center console.
As far as DIY goes I dont know. The installer working on mine says there are two parts to the disable. 1)parking brake 2)some type of motion sensor, I am guessing GPS based. I am getting ready to head there now to drop her off I will find out more shortly |

I didnt do it! I talked to the installer and he proceded to explain I would have to toggle my nav on and off with a switch to make it funtion. Too much extra stuff for me. I dont want videos bad enough to add extra switches in my car. Sorry

It's not that bad guys. First you just want to watch video, right? That only involves the parking brake to be grounded. With the brake wire grounded the car thinks the brake is always engaged, so the only need for a switch here would be to remove the parking brake warning light on your dash, when you don't want the video on. (if the light doesn't bother you, then no need for a switch here)
The only time a switch needs to be added is if you want to hack the nav unit in order to get around the car greying out certain functions on the GPS while driving. When driving it grey certain sections out so you are not playing with it while driving. This hack slips into the VSS wire and when the switch is turned off, this tricks the car to think it's not moving (the GPS does still technically work however it's just not as accurate) With the switch on the GPS works as normal, but the grey parts are back on the nav. Hope this clears things up a bit for you! |

That sounds very accurate to what my guy said. I tried it while parked and the stock screen wasn't that impressive, it looked kinda crappy. I just decided that it wasn't worth the extra money for that tiny screen to play less than great videos. You are correct though. It was as exactly as you describe according to the audio company I spoke with

Is there a diy on how to ground the parking brake? In Canada, due to drl requirements, the Headlights and taillights are always on as soon as the ebrake is released. I would want to make a switch so have e brake grounded so my lights are only on at night.
