Default IPOD connection WITHOUT NAVIGATION

Anyone have any feedback on the wiring harness that is available for the stock radio on my 370z that DOES NOT have the navigation system? I'm tired of forgetting to turn off my IPOD when using the AUX input and am debating the new wiring with the direct connection.

My base speaker sounds like crap (static) when using my iphone. If this makes it better than its worth it, if not. I agree with you to use the AUX cable

bumping this up to see if anyone has had anymore input....the sound just doesn't come out as good with the aux cable....and I hate not having the wheel controls or being able to see the info on the radio screen.

Bought mine for 12 bucks, base stereo has been sounding pretty good with it. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I turn the stereo volume down and crank the iPhone's volume.

Then again, I'm not a car audio connoisseur by any stretch.

Definitely let me know how it goes. Would you mind sharing the cost of the parts you purchased?

I got everything on eBay. That's where I get most of my mods. I paid $129 for the iPod controller and the wiring harness (free shipping) and the HD Radio adaptor was $50 (also free shipping). All of which are brand new. I paid about the average going price for the controller, but I got a great deal on the HD Radio adaptor. I've seen it go for as high as $90.

In the past I was a big audio file and totally replaced the sound system, but as I get older I find myself less in to that. With this car I have no real desire to install a sound system that will take up any trunk space, weigh the car down and cause me to rip out most of the interior for installation and or maintenance after a few years. I still have 3 Phoenix Gold amps from my previous car (one M50 and two M25s), but I don’t see them ever getting installed in to the Z.

One thing I forgot to mention, these items are only for use with the Bose factory stereo (non-navigation). For these things to work, you must have the "SAT" button on the face of the stereo (satellite radio button). Don't ask me why, but that's what the directions state.

I did the installation yesterday. It didn’t go as smooth as I hoped, but it’s in and working. One of the big hang-ups I had was with the HD Radio adaptor. I wasn’t able to install it because it requires an antenna adaptor because Nissan uses a proprietary antenna plug. I ordered the adaptor, so I will have to install that at a later date.

The iPod controller was physically easy to install, but the user directions I downloaded weren’t correct, so I called Technical Support. They were very helpful. After talking with them for a few minutes it was up and running. Turns out the directions were made for a different radio. The directions tell you to access the iPod through the “Aux” button on the face of the radio, but that’s wrong. You need to use the “Sat” button instead.

The sound quality is good. You’re no longer able to use the volume on the face of the iPod. The volume is solely controlled through the stereo. I connected one iPod to the docking cable and another to the Aux input and played the same song on both while switching back and forth between the two. Sound quality is the same, but you’re able to get more volume out of the Aux input because you can use the volume control on the iPod as well as the stereo, but that distorts quicker, so it evens out. The docked iPod also charges, which is a nice feature.

The controls are a little weird and will take some time to get used to. I haven’t had much time to mess around with them, but once I do I’ll post my thoughts.

I’m working on a full DIY guide and will post it in the DIY section as soon as it’s finished, and will be sure to let all of you know when it’s posted.

One last thing, when I called technical support I found out that the manufacturers of UPAC and iSimple are the same company.
