People have different opinons mine is when a system purposely takes different parts of your music out so they will not distort there crappy speakers, I think thats pathetic. Music should be played without being modified by a company that knows there speakers can not handle much.
Me I actually am the same style of music, I listen to the old stuff more than the newer stuff such at Pink Floyd, Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Garry Moore, Journey, Eagles and so on. My cd collection includes over 300 cds and growing all paid for so I could have the highest quality audio with no compression. I know about good music and how it should sound bose does not do that. My personal system is SQ based and not a "thumper" |
I think my grandpop has those CD's on vinyl. SQueer

LOL still good stuff!

To be honest, I'm glad Nissan cheaped out on the base model because it saves money on the end product and I'll rip it out anyway. The Bose actually sounded worse to me a( little muddy, probably do to poor quality 6x9 speakers).
Also, I love the fact the stock headunit is a direct replace double din. It takes all of an hour to replace it with an aftermarket double din HU + nav. So happy Nissan doesn't do what some manufacturers like Honda do and put some 3 foot wide unit that include audio + clock + glovebox + climate controls. |

SQ system. |
Sound Quality systems are setup to be as close to the original recording as possible. Where as other system are more like rattle or bass boxes on wheels.

I am sorry but anyone who thinks the BOSE sound system in the Z AND thinks its great is either tone deaf or they have never heard a decent aftermarket system. I could buy a $80 boom box from walmart and put it on my dash and it would sound better than the stock audio system. BOSE makes the worst OEM car audio systems. Everyone I have heard has MUDDY MUDDY Bass and no highs and nasally sounding midrange. The louder you turn it up and the more compressed it sounds. My ears are cringing just thinking about it.
I purposly bought the Base model pls Sprt pkg so I wasnt paying for the very costly BOSE system which I would have ended up in a cardboard box in storage forever. I wanted the leather seats but I sure as hell wasnt going to pay $2500 for them. |

The main reason why audiophiles hate BOSE is for the following reasons.
Quality of components is extreamly poor equaling that of low-end audio but its sold for the price of high-end audio because they heavily use equilization and elaborate enclosure design to emphasize bass frequencies that the components would not normally be able to produce. This is why they sound fake and compressed. They do not provide specifications other than maximum wattage. This is because they dont want consumers to know how little rms power their amplifiers produce and how much distortion thier amplifiers have. Thier amps are always tiny and underpowered because they use cheap Integrated circuits instead of descrete mosfet transistors. Thier speakers are made of paper and have tiny undersized magnets and thier frames are cheap flimsy sheet metal. By far the worst quality I have ever seen by any manufacture. Thier reputation is built by a very good marketing team that targets the by and large un-informed audience. They make thier systems in small, neat, convienient, easy to use packages that promise HUGE sound and people fall for it every time. This is why I and many others HATE BOSE!!!! |

Come on now it is not a fair comparison to make between a crappy stock radio put in by a car company and high end aftermarket audio. If you are into high end audio you should know better than to expect any stock system, base or bose to be able to compete with that stuff. So bottom line is and it's never changed, that if you want high end audio you buy the cheapest stock radio you can and then you yank it out. This is standard operating procedure. But bitching that the stock base or bose doesn't compare with an aftermarket system is ridiculous. I mean what were you expecting?
That said the 370z bose/nav system is better than most stock car systems. It still sucks, but where is the surprise in that? I am not sure what the complaint is? I have never heard a decent stock system installed by a car manufacturer (when compared to aftermarket systems). If you have high end audio expectations you should know it has to be aftermarket. This discussion is really moot. |

I had the Harmon Kardon ICE 12 speaker system in my Landrover and it had 3-way components in the doors. With the exception of lots of deep bass output it would put many aftermarket systems to shame. It was good enough that the only upgrade I did was add an aftermarket subwoofer and amplifier. It had impressive mid bass output and imaging and midrange was was suprizingly good!
I also had an Audi that had a monsoon system that was suprizingly good too. For not having subs it sounded very full and controlled. |
My brother had a Bose stereo in his 08 escalade and It sounded pretty good. The bose system use speakers in enclosure designed for the specific vehicles parameters. While they may not compare to the output and fidelity of a several thousand dollar aftermarket setup, they can still sound pretty nice.
