Bose system

I know everyone is going to think I am crazy and I could be but here goes. The stock nismo sound system is hands down the crappiest system I've heard. I will have to do something to upgrade. I am 48 and don't want some 42in. sub. I had the bose system in my 06 and though I am not a fan of Bose it was ok. I am extremely hesitant to install any type of aftermarket system. I don't like the fit/finish any exposed wires spacers to make things fit etc. So I am wondering does the nismo have the same panels etc as a normal 370 with the Bose system? If so would all the Bose components fit with no modifications? I am guessing I would need the HU spkrs. amps and subs and probably a partial wiring harness. Does anyone know if this would work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Weapon

The Bose components are too expensive unless you find someone on here willing to sell theirs, then you'll need to spend some $ on the harnesses that aren't cheap. My suggestion if you would like to keep ths stock look is purchase a MTX RE-Q and add an 4 Channel aftermarket Amp hidden away behind or under the seat. Buy a pair of nice components for the front doors and a small 6-8 inch sub. You can get away with probably spending about $500-800. That would be the cheapest route to go while maintaining the stock look and not tearing into your car too much.

The bose speakers will probably fit but are a lower ohms than what any head unit can handle and would fry it. My recommendation upgrade the head unit or the speakers. Stay away from the bose.

I'd say take a look at Infinity Kappa Perfects (While I'm a huge fan of Alpine, the Kappa Perfects are so crisp at high volumes).

For headunit take a look here:
Kenwood DNX6140 install

A Kenwood unit seems to be the best overall choice to go with, from my research the DNX6140 being the better unit even of newer ones to go with as the newer models seem to be prone to crashes and random restarts(what I've gathered from my reading around).

Hi guys and thanks for the responses. I guess I wasn't as clear as I could have been. I was hoping someone would know if it is possible to install the bose system in the nismo. I will only install aftermarket if there is one that can be installed with absolutely no modifications. I won't so much as splice into am existing wire, that is why I am hoping the bose system will work. I guess the only problems I can see would be the subs and the harness( would there simply be an interconnect harness or would I have to replace the entire harness? and would the subs fit in my existing interior panels I am not sure if they are the same. I know it would be much easier to install aftermarket but I will trade a little sound quality for stock installation, ( for quality sound I'll go inside and throw on some vinyl. Thanks again any help is greatly appreciated.

I have the Bose system and after installing new speakers and amp, I think you'll find it more time, work, and money if you try to install the Bose system vs. just installing an aftermarket setup. You can do an aftermarket HU and speakers and get harnesses for each so you don't have to splice any wires.

Before I ordered my Z I drove several trims of the 370Z and I didnt think the BOSE system was any better than the stock stereo. It just had slightly more muddy bass!

Its not that hard to have an aftermarket stereo system look like it came with the car. If you do aftermarket system go all the way and do it right otherwise you will not be happy.

I recommend the following: (I will not suggest brands as it only creates an argument on here)


1. (1) Double Din sized head unit

2. (1) 4-channel amplifier (75X4 to 100X4) watts RMS is perfectly adequate.

3. (1) Set of 2-way 6-1/2" component speakers

4. (1) In-spare tire subwoofer enclosure with an 8" or 10" subwoofer depending on how much bass you want and how low you want it.

If you want your Z to be quiter inside I highly recommend sound deadning. It makes a huge difference and makes the Z much more refined.

You will only need 4 channels if your running rear speakers which I have recommended not to do. 50 watts would be fine for component speakers. Also unless they want it hidden you do not need to put the sub in the spare tire location. Plus your options are limited for that location as well. Z enclosure sub box with a nice 10 would be another choice. Normal subs will have more throw than shallow ones in the spare tire location.

I recommend a 4 channel so he can bridge the back to channels to run his sub. He will want a 4 channel amp thats big enough to bridge at least 150 to 250 watts. A 50X4 amp will not come even close to that!

His Nismo doesnt have rear speakers installed. He also made it clear that he wants his car to look stock. I highly doubt he wants a speaker box in the back of his car. Wicked CAS has made some stealth enclosures that will suit his goals in keeping the car looking factory. He also stated that he isn't interested in Big Bass so a nice 8" standard sub or a 10" shallow sub should suffice for his goals.

I did manage to get it for 50 bucks and it is new condition it is the Bose 6 disc changer with Bluetooth/XM Radio and MP3 the thing is that when i hooked it up the volume was low on the speakers and the volume on the Bose was at max I need to do a little more research on it to see what i can do to pump up the jam..

What about the tweeters? Shouldn't they be replaced as well?

Absolutely, A component speaker set is made up of seperate tweeters, mid-woofers, and crosover modules.
