Minor SWI-Jack issue
I re-installed my DNX8120 today with a Kenwood GTM10 traffic receiver and a SWI-JACK steering wheel control. Thanks to bigaudiofanat and a lot of other helpful information on here, everything worked the first time out, EXCEPT for...
When I do the setup for the SWI-JACK, it will only recognize the volume up and volume down buttons. I have tried multiple different combinations to try to set them up, but I can't find anything that will work. I am clueless about the nitty-grittys of electronics, but I was wondering if one of the resistors might be toast. Anyone here intimately knowledgeable about the SWI-JACK and its functions? If not, at least the volume control works! :) Thanks in advance :tiphat: edit: Realized I kept calling the adapter SWI-PAC instead of SWI-JACK. Doh! |
You might need to check your wires that the pac is wired to. Might have one or two crossed.

Any idea what the specific functions of the blue and pink wires are?
|
On the head unit?
|
On the car harness. Those are the two wires that you have to tap the resistors into. I think I may have nuked one of the resistors when I did the soldering.

I've pretty much confirmed my suspicions. I found the schematic for the 370.
Pin 6 (pink) goes to the source, menu up and menu down buttons. Pin 16 (blue) goes to volume up, volume down. When I was soldering the two resistors to the white wire, I'm pretty sure I overheated the resistor. Now I should just be able to put in a new resistor and then I'm off to the races. I love learning stuff. Kinda makes my head hurt, but it's pretty cool anyway. :icon14: |
How tough was the head unit install?
It's like pulling teeth to get a quote from the recommended installer in my area. Another shop that's very good said they will install the equipment but I have to bring them all the parts. I'm starting to consider doing it all myself. |

I ran the BT mic to the pillar, iPod harness in the glovebox, GPS antennae to the rear hatch area, did some minor soldering for the SWI-JACK and that all took me less than 5 hours. Also included in that time was pulling all of the stuff out of the back end to add sound deadening. I had originally put this HU in a 350z and the 370 is quite a lot easier. |
